What the difference between a 78 K20 and a 78 K20 "Camper Special"? I am gonna go look at one sunday. it has a 400 small block, full-time 4x4.

Dont your get a lower gear? I heard 4.10s? also heard that they have a TH400? And someone told me a dana 60(im sure its probaly a 44).

A HD K20 will already have a FF rear and TH400 (if it's an auto), gearing was an option, so you could get anything up to 4.56 from the factory. Most will probably be 4.10. GM only put D60's in K30's. Furd put D60's in a few select F250's in addition to the 350's. The front will be a 44 or 10b.

Fulltime 4x4 means it should have the 203 which is somewhat hard to find so you can do a TH400 doubler pretty easy if those are your plans.

It will do a great job towing. Mine did with the 454 in it. Of course it was new..

My old '79 K20 Camper Special came from the factory with 350/400/203 D44 Front and 14FF Rear. It had the large rear 13" drum brakes. I think the braking system is upgraded from than standard 3/4 stuff. I had no problems locking up 38's at 60mph. Convert it to partime 4wd and it will be a great tow rig.

I should get a hold of a NP205. and then upgrade to part time, and it will be all set.

The cool thing about the truck is it isnt lifted:eek1: , it kinda like how it was 29 years ago, a little more beat up. its even got stock size tires, till a guy like me puts 31's or 32s on it

my main issue is the glass and emission its an out of state vehical, so its gotta go through a saftey check(never gonna pass because of the glass), and it got no catyltic converters so it would never pass emissions

Those trucks came w/o cats from the factory. You don't need em. My 80 came with AIR injection but no cats, factory. The 8600+ GVW trucks (federal anyway) remained cat free til 86.

Buy it resto it! My 79 had a cat but I believe that was first year on it.
