Camping Trailer Build

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'm starting an overland style camping trailer build. I know there's a tow and trailer forum, but that seems to be more geared towards car haulers and stuff meant for the road, so this seemed more appropriate since it's built for off-road use primarily.

This will be my 3rd trailer. I've learned a lot from the other two and I'm hoping this one will be everything I want it to be. The first trailer I built was designed to tow behind my old Blazer, it was big and heavy and not incredibly user friendly:

It had a 200qt Ice chest in the back, 4 Nato cans, a 29 gallon water tank and a faucet with pump.

The second trailer was more of a test bed for some ideas I had. It incorporated an old S-10 truck bed and a rooftop tent. It was much lighter, but top-heavy and it didn't have any cool features outside of the tent.

But a top heavy trailer with bald tires and off camber hills doesn't always work out.

So with the background covered...

Now that the S-10 is 98% ready for my big trip, I have 6 weeks to whip up a new camping trailer. It's going to incorporate quite a few crazy ideas I've had and I don't think it's going to be like anything else out there.

I started with a pile of steel last Sunday and cut it up to make the frame. The outer parts are 2x2x.250 and the inner is 2x2x.120.

Next weekend I'm going to steal the axle, airbags and links out of my other trailer and knock out the rest of the things I need to get the trailer off the ground and looking more like a trailer.

I thought about doing this with a surplus military trailer... looking forward to seeing how it comes out

very interested as well....I thought about building one years ago, but obviously its gotten put down the list a long ways....here is my thread that generated some ideas on the subject.

Thanks!

I should have the frame able to be hooked up to my S-10 by the end of the weekend if everything goes as planned. I need to pick up some stuff from SDHQ this afternoon and I'll probably spend a bit of time in the garage tonight, although it's hot as balls in AZ right now...

I have an axle I built that's just tube with some trailer spindles on it already (same width as my truck axle). I'm going to build it without brakes on the axle, but will most likely need them and add them later. The axle right now has 8 lug drums on it, but I have some 6 lug no brake hubs in my shed I'll be using so I can bolt up the old 35s from my truck.

Right on! I'm in! Been thinking about building something like this for my kid to drag around while he's hunting and fishing.

I threw a memory foam pad on top of the factory mattress and it's great. The only real damage from the flop was some holes in the cover, so it's built pretty good too.
