I just picked up an Overland Vehicle Systems Everest XD 4 person tent.

It's a hard shell tent with blackout fabric, quite an upgrade from the old worn out CVT. It should be easier to set up/tear down as well which will be nice. I am a bit worried about the additional weight (it's about 100lbs heavier than the old tent), but it's still within the specifications of the 9 year old desk legs...

We've taken the new tent out a couple times. With the old tent we had a privacy tarp that Amber made that just clipped on and only took a few minutes to set up. This tent is completely different and the privacy tarp wasn't even close to working with it. On the first trip, we just hung a tarp up to give us a little privacy. On the second trip we had finally gotten the side room we ordered and used it. It is HUGE and difficult to set up and fold up when you're done. Amber has spent the past few weeks making a new and improved side room/privacy tarp. We're looking forward to testing it out next week.

The roads are getting worse (which is good) but I used to be able to get there in 2 hours from home. There's also a lot of dead wood standing, I had to clear the road on the way in, so it took us about 3 hours this time. That's pretty normal for the first trip into that spot (it's really hidden) after snow. There's been numerous fires through the area.
 
Last time we took the camping trailer out the cover for the canopy decided it wasn't going to work properly anymore. We've had our eye on those 270° canopies and decided it was time to upgrade (it will go nice with the new tent). We picked up the 23zero Onyx (on sale right now) and I got it mounted up today.

I don't like how far it sticks out when it's folded up, we caught the old one on enough trees etc. Tomorrow I'm going to move the mounts inboard and raise the canopy on the mounts so the zipper is right over the edge of the trailer. That should help protect it and I thought it seemed a little low when it was folded out, not an issue for Amber obviously.
 
We've been using it for 10 years now. I've fixed most of the things that I didn't like. The new tent and canopy probably shave 15 minutes off of setup and at least 30 off of packing up. That's pretty significant when you're doing it every day, although it's been a while since we've done that.
I reset the canopy so it would be 50% over the trailer roof when it's folded up, this should protect it better, but I'll still need to be careful.

The canopy has some fancy LED lighting as well, although the controller is a bit flakey (they're sending me a new one). It does full RGB as well as various party modes that I'll never use, but it does have dimmable lights that match the rest of my lightning so that's a win.

After I verified it was going to fit where I wanted to put it, I pulled the tent off so I could get the rest of the holes drilled for the bracket, and sealed up all the old holes as well as under the new brackets. I bolted the brackets down fully and put the tent back on, I'll re-mount the canopy once the RV sealer is set up.
 
I forgot to make another comment about the canopy. It's called a "free standing" canopy, but it does have legs and tie down points if the wind is going to be over 10mph. I have a friend who has a similar one and I've never seen him tie it down, but he does put the legs down every time.
