can some one explane a tbi power charger

if i had to do it again, i probably wouldn't run a tb spacer.. they tend to perform better at higher rpm's... Not something a tbi motor does..

I'm probably also changing my adjustable fuel regulator for a vacuum referenced one at some point...

Is a throttle body spacer something I should look at too or should i just get

1: Injector spacer
2: Power charger
3: K&N air filter

skip the K&N, unless you wheel your truck ALOT. i dont remember which magazine it was but someone did a test, and found that a good quality paper filter will outflow a K&N. if you wheel your truck alot, the K&N has better filtering properties, but at the cost of some flow. that, and you never have to buy one, just keep cleaning the one you have. IIRC the cleaning and recharge kit will run you about $20.

eh, i think thats the opposite Jeremy, K&N's flow better, at the cost of good filtration...

That being said, I'm a paper element guy... I clean enough Air Sep's on boats, I don't wanna do mine... :haha:

could be, i cant find the article, so i may be mistaken. :dunno:

at any rate, i'm a paper filter guy, for whatever reason. :D

the AFPR itself, and the inlet fitting with gauge isnt a bad idea, so you know what you're actually setting it at.

That wont be the same... radiusing the airflow as it comes out of the filter and how it gets to the tbi is critical.. With the charger/salad bowl, you've hogged out all the flat metal inside the air cleaner, changing the flow direction from a 90 degree turn, to a 45..

I removed the ring and everything... it went from a 90 degree turn to a zero degree turn... I don't see how that thing would make it any better...

And yeah Jeremy ya got it backards (yes i left the w out on purpose) and the recharge kit runs 9.99 here.:waytogo:

You still have a 90 deg turn as the air has to turn from horizontal to verticle to get down into the TB. With the radiused thingamajig it smooths the air flow into the TB, it still makes a 90 deg turn it just takes a longer more smooth path to do it.

Actually the K&N filter filters better once it gets a little dirty. The recharge kit is 9.99 and comes with the red spray stuff. The stuff wets the filter so dirt sticks to it. The dirt that collects helps to filter out other dirt. At least thats what K&N says.

I Read this whole thread seems the only ones that slam the power charger are the ones that have never even tried one. Kinda figgures but ignorance is no excusee...........
Yes they do work you will see power gains and maby 1 MPG increase on a stock engine.
Basicly they are a veloicity stack. Drag racers have been using then for years to improve air velocity at low speed(low end torque) so to get off the line quicker.
Add a open plentium(not the 2 hole type) TB spacer and an injector spacer and you will see an easy 10 to 15 HP with a free flowing exhaust.
I like K&N filters Been using then since the 70s Never had any problems with them. personally i dont believe all that internet crap about them not filtering good. I have never had a problem with them letting any dirt by and have used them on street to class 5 buggy racing. People just like to slam stuff they know nothing about. i will admit K&N dont filter quite as good as paper but the diference is neglible. What little they do let thru is below 5 microns and will not harm an engine.

it wasnt internet crap, it was on paper. every car magazine i've picked up recently has a K&N advertisement in it, but i have yet to see one for paper filters. you dont generally slam a paying advertiser's product unless it really isnt what its claimed to be.

Maybe I should run one of those tall ass paper filters... But they don't do so hot if you get a little splashage on them... paper on road and K&N offroad.

The only problem I have with running a tall filter or open element is TBI likes cold air. You will loose power sucking hot under hood air. TBI likes cool air from the front of the truck. Open element airfilters/Xtreem work good in a 1/4 miler car because you usually make your runs with a cool engine.
But in a truck the engine is working harder and under hood temps are a lot higher than in a light car. You will see a power loss with open element espicially on a hot summer day.
The stock air cleaner housing and pipe flow more than enough air for a TBI truck. Cleaning up the air stream by removing the thermac diverter does help. That is all you need to do to the stock setup to improve air flow.
