car opinion.....updated question s10?

Thats actually how I found my ex wife. She loved my hair and my van.:D
and yeah i though you had a k5 that you could fix.

Well see thats where you went wrong, you can't start a long lasting relationship in the van!!! Maybe just end the night their lol. :D

i do but it just needs work and needs rust repair. so if i found one for under a 1000 i would grab it i think. who can ever have to many parts:D

rear end howls like a beast but i just crank the radio, my mechanic said the gears look soo good he said it would outlast everything else. (the bearings like to eat the housing a little for some reason in vans, had one at work with 10000 miles do it, if you find it quick it can be fixed other wise its no big deal).

You may want to look for a new mechanic :doah:

(There is way more to a good rear end than just "looking" at the gears, don't inherently trust mechanics just because their job is to fix cars)

I'm not old by any stretch but I've seen TONS of mechanics be WAY off on diagnosis, they aren't perfect. A noisy diff will typically live a very short life.

So here is my vote, because you don't need 2 cars just one. What about a diesel blazer?

They get not bad milage, even lifted with stock gears mine is pulling down around 17 in town and 20 out on the highway, I expect it to get better once I get the 4.56s in it.

That eliminates all the extras only one car to pay insurance, upkeep, registration, etc.

I bet you could find a super nice one for around 3-5k

Just an idea

If its about a DD i vote for either a old VW diesel pick up or old pre smog bug. I want to build a custom vehicle built for fuel efficiency but i cant fund the project without putting off racing projects atm :( , I plan to start with a VW bug or VW diesel pick up if im going for a 4x4 DD. I dont know the mpg numbers on the old bugs but the diesel pick up will pull 40+ all day :deal: . Hell this custom DD is getting me so excited im considering putting everything off to build it, Been bouncing ideas off dad quite a bit for it and thinks its pretty cool to. Anyways i went way off topic

My top picks for a DD are
-yota trucks unabused low mileage (under 100k)
-mighty max/dodge ram 50
-VW diesel pick up
-VW bug

I personally wouldnt ever DD a car just because i see no use for em. A truck will do everything a car will do but a car will not do everything a truck can do. I dont cruise over 65 on the freeway and i dont plan to drift through intersections so a 90 HP 5 speed ram 50 treats me just fine :). Just hit 190k miles and running like a champ -burning some oil.

I've given alot of thought to this also. If I find one I would jump on it. They just aren't very common around here for some reason.

I bet diesel burbs are more common:D

I think for a really nice example you may have to travel a bit.

I bet you my jetts would disagree with you.
There is nothing your D50 could do, that my jetta hasn't done.
Last year I was moving and I put in it:
A table a chair, two th400's and 2 208 tcases and one 205 tcase. plus a few books in the front seat.
I also moved 2 big rig tires from my house to the yard, about a 30 mile run.

Nah im not stickin any money in it. He knows i have the money to fix it so idk, he definately could have told me it needed to be fixed but he didnt. That was the only time i ever brought a vehicle to a mechanic, so i dont think i can call him "my mechanic" anyways lol.

If I were you I would sell the Honda outright, no trades. Then negotiate with cash in hand for a Corolla. $1500 for one that needs possible motor and tranny work is a bad deal. We sold our 1992 Geo Prism (a re-badged Toyota Corolla) with 95k miles for $1800. It was in great shape, needed nothing, my wife drove it all the time. It's a great little car. Or get an older Honda Civic. Either of those will easily last you into the 200k miles with oil changes and basic maintenance.

The less you owe someone else, the quicker you can buy your properties. You are wise to try to buy rental properties, and to buy now, don't miss this market!

i think i can get the car for a few hundred. so if i pick up another motor that has like a year warranty for under 1k then im in it so far for 1200. then the other nickel and dime stuff. or sell my civic and pick up something running already for under 3k.

like i said my ultimate goal is to own rental houses and i would rather have a beater car and a older truck and money in the bank. i do have to get a truck for any supplies ill need like sheetrock etc etc

Sheetrock?? I mean come on!!!! And dont be hatin on the van, I got one rule written on the wall. "RESPECT THE VAN"

ok the more i think about it maybe the best of both worlds might be a little s10. i dont need ext. cab because the g/f has a maxima so im good there. its just the two of us so im fine with a reg cab for the right price

4 cyl 5 speed im thinking i could get 25mpg and pay about 3k. little truck i can haul my kayaks and whatever else i need. still looking at maybe even a jetta tdi if i can get a good one for around 5k. 50 mpg would be nice. gotta sell my civic first though

well, I enjoy my '01 s10. If you're a taller guy, you might want the ext. cab. I couldn't live without it.

I wouldn't mind trading it for a 4 door car that gets good millage, but I enjoy having a bed and towing ability without having to use the blazer. I couldn't see driving a fullsize where I live, if I don't need one.

Personally I wouldn't get a S10 unless you got a good deal on one with a known history. I'm just not a fan from having friends and relatives with them. Just don't seem to hold up and in my opinion the interiors were the worst.

Also...not so sure about the 25mpg in a little truck like that. You'd be pushing it to get that high.
