Alrite,i have a mount for a cb anntena dead center in the roof of my truck.and its garbage it's coming out.now the problem is i will have a nice size hole in the roof of the truck.i was going to put another mount in the truck but the problem is, i park my truck in the garage every night, should i just get a plug and plug the hole, or put a different mount in there?

and i need a messurement, anyone with a wilson roof i need to know how far the base is from the bottom of the roof to the top were the antenna mounts.

Thanks

patch the roof and mount it on your rear bumper. military style. like the hummers setup

The mount for the Wilson only sticks up 1/2" above the roof line. The load is 6" tall but unscrews from the mount like stated above.

so is this a better setup than a magnetic mount?

And a Random question,What Does HAM(radio) Stand for?

You are talking Ohms. RF does not really care about resistance. It is all in the impedance. The small layer of paint just makes a little capacitor in the circuit.
Capacitive Reactance is not that high at CB frequencies.

sooo....is my metal tab that i mounted my antenna to (on bumper) not a "good" ground? it so can i just place a ground cable from my frame to an circle wire connector and place it between the antenna base and metal tab?

sorry for the hijack...

Depends on the way you conneted it to the bumper, and the way it is connected to the antenna base. Just because it is RF does not mean that it will jump all bounds to get a good ground plane.

If you take a mag base and put more insulator between it and the car body the impedance becomes too high and it will not radiate properly.

Lots of times the bumbers are not very well conected to the frame in an electrical sense. Then from there the frame must have a good electrical connection to the body. The body is the gound plane, not the bumper or frame.
The best place to mount an antenna is on the top of the vehicle, in the center, given it is on a metal structure. IE: not the fiberglass back half of a blazer.

Alrite

3 different options.

Wilson Roof Mount
Magnetic Wilson on the Roof
Bumper Mount with a 9 Foot Whip

Comet makes a great UHF mount ( wilsons are UHF mounts too ..... I.E a so-239 ) with gold plated center conductors at the ends , smaller diameter coax for fitting under the headliner , or through the roof panels , and it sticks up an inch from the roof so the antenna sit flush with the body .

PArt # 3d4m for 13 feet , and 3d5m for 17 feet , less loss than the Wilson mount . I scored one , and the wilson mount is coming down .

Mag mount; you can take it to other vehicles.
I use a mag mount in the middle of the roof (Burb), great gain holy moly. :haha:
