There is no "chunk" like in a Toyota or Ford 9" diff. All of the diff parts are integral to the axle housing so the work has to be done inside of the housing.

My boss has a race truck, I borrowed his axle stand (4x4's with 2x4 bracing) when I did my axle.
It was my first, so I had to redo it several times. It was great having at a comfortable working hieght.

what did you have to redo? like i said, i have only fooled with yota and samurai axels b 4, and i jus swapped chunks and gears with them. I would like to learn how to work on these dana's, but i dont know if i want to go playing with something I drive every day or so............
Did you set up gears on the toy and sami axles?
yes, it was a real shade tree job
yota is still running for now 
and the sami met its maker at a rock crawl a couple years ago

yes, thank you, i have been reading it. I think I am going to play with the front axle first, that way if i screw it up i wont be ride less, jus 4x4 less haha. Even though I still wont be able to use 4x4 till I regear the rear, it will give me some practice. now on to deciding type of locker and where to get it from haha.
I installed a posi and new gear set (4:10)
Had to set the pinion depth, took a couple of tries.
