Chebby Guru's and Parts Geniuses...

The 89-only, pass-drop, mech-speedo NP241 might be a little tough to find.

Alternatively, you can use a 81-88 NP208 (32-spline) behind the Getrag/NV3500.

The getrag/NV3500 alone may be a real 'hen's tooth' - and priced accordingly when you find one that still has some life in it.

Good luck.

The nv3500 is actually fairly popular as a 2wd tranny. Probably swapping the input shaft to a 4wd one would allow you to use one of them.

I actually found a good working 89 NP241 for $200 in PA!

And the seller might even be able to get it to about 30 minutes from me in VA!

Now the tranny is gonna be the hard part...

2wd versions are not easy to convert. You need the 4wd main (output) shaft, and the rear half of the trans case (to get the 6-bolt t-case flange instead of just the hole for the yoke.

Just don't start out in low gear. You don't HAVE to start in that tractor low gear every time. I drove a UPS 20+ footer with a 465 and a v6 and it wouldn't kill the motor starting in 1st instead of Low.

The problem with an s-10 t-case is that it will also have a driver side drop for the diff. You would have to find a np241 off of an 89-91 K5 or Suburban to get a passenger side drop. 89 is the only year for a mechanical speedo. 90-91 had electronic speedos.

I'd look into using a 208 as well, they aren't that different from a 241 and should work for something so light. 208's were all mechanical speedo.
