Poorly phrased, but I voted no anyway. I hope this makes it to other sites, specifically thinking of the one in black........
 
I do a little 4wheeling, a fair amount of a ATV'ing, and TON of snowmobiling. So I am up in the national forests in both the summer and winter. I do somewhat feel that the summer areas do need to be restricted in certain areas. Not NEARLY as much as the greenies do, but in some areas that may be extra sensitive to a trail and vehicle traffic. The thing is, is that tires are hard on the trails and directly effect the terrain. Things like water run off has to be dealed with when trails are made and used over and over. What ticks me off is when the signs are clearly marked that no one is allowed off trail, and you find where someone had spun donuts in a grassy meadow. :mad: People need to use their head.

What drives me really nuts, since I'm 10 times more a snowmobiler than anything else, is that more and more riding areas are being closed during the WINTER. People that aren't sledders just don't understand that there isn't the potential of damage to the areas when it's under 10ft of snow! You do a brake stand with a 4x4 on a summer trail. You leave two holes that will take another person to fill in or years for the ground to "reshape." A sledder hammers on it and leaves a 1' trench 10 feet long. IT MELTS! After the coming spring has melted the snow, there will be NO evidence that there ever even was a snowmobile in that general area because the evidence is down in the lakes at that point and out into my rice field to irrigate my crop, and everyone else's too.

Anyway, I think there should be a lot less restrictions on summer 4 wheeling and atv'ing, but with an awareness of what a heavily traveled trail and irrisponsible people could potentially do to an area's water run off and what not.

I do think there should be nearly no restrictions for sleds. We don't bother anything because we ride on the snow, not the dirt, and the snow melts away, and doesn't hurt the dirt or anything else around it. :laugh:
 
Totally agree with you RJ. Let's be honest, these extremists aren't really interested in any recreation, they just want all people out of all forests. They really don't understand what wildlife or forest management is, or what benefits it has. That's why we all need to stick together no matter what motor sports we're involved in. I'd also like to see more alliances between hunters and offroaders. Though these sports sometimes compete, we share common enemies and would be stronger united. BTW, I wish we had deeper snow in our mountains more often, sledding looks like a blast. Kind of like jet skiing on land?

Yep, they just THINK that we are all just a bunch of reckless crazy nature discarding idiots running around on our highly polluting vehicles invading areas where all the birds, squirrels, bears, and raccoons are singing together.

That's why we all need to stick together no matter what motor sports we're involved in. I'd also like to see more alliances between hunters and offroaders. Though these sports sometimes compete, we share common enemies and would be stronger united.

I completely agree. I have noticed that some people think that their offroad sport is so different than the others. It's all nearly the same for the most part.
BTW, I wish we had deeper snow in our mountains more often, sledding looks like a blast. Kind of like jet skiing on land?

It's not a blast, it's unbelievable. The main luring things about snowmobiling is the terrain out west, all mountains. You will always find perfect hill climbs, bowls that you can spend ours in, gulleys, cornices, weaving through trees.... Stuff you just can't do on 2 or 4 wheels.

Then there is snow, it's not like sand, dirt, rocks, or mud. It's a totally different substance that contains it's own challenges. There is nothing like romping on the throttle on a new, high powered mountain sled in 2' of fresh powder just to have the skis come fying up out of it and you are getting slung through the deep snow as your arms feel like they are about to rip out of their sockets. Don't even get me started on the feeling of climbing hillsides that are almost strait up just to come down and jump off that perfect cornice and land 30' lower down the mountain....

One of my favorite things though is the scenery that we are able to get at. Many times we unload and leave the trailer/towrig at 5,500ft and reach nearly 10,000ft on the sleds. You can see for miles and miles, it's like being on top of the world and looking down on some of the mountains.

Jet skis are cute. ;) Sleds are 10 years ahead of ATV's and jet skis when it comes to technology.

Also if anyone is interested in writing a letter to the forest service, they are trying to ban snow wheeling in El Dorado County, CA. Many of you probably don't know that is where the Rubicon trail is located. We need more help writing emails, please follow the links to Pirate4x4 to check out the thread.

The only thing I don't like about that poll are the TWO options.... more specifically " No, off-roaders should be able to enjoy all areas of forests and grasslands." Access should be restricted, yes... there are places where ORV's have no business, because ORV's do affect the environment. Any survey can be skewed up by the language and number of choices. But, we've all heard this before...

It's an MSN poll. How do we stop this legislation? I am new and have not seen all the forums, but is there a forum for legislation against us, for instance I run a forum that posts nothing but educating people about upcoming anti hunting laws. We all can vote, let's put our horsepower to work! I am finding this Jim Furnish's e-mail address and giving him a coming to Jesus e-mail.
