I don't know if there is any difference in quality these days, but I bought a Jet 7 x 12 bandsaw in '98. I have been very happy with that saw and it has served me well in a commercial shop. During a 4 month period in '07 about 60,000# of angle and channel went thru that saw with not a hiccup.

Dang Capt! Hopefully someone might post up if JET is still good quality like they where in 98 but sounds like a good review and budget price is right for alot of guys out there.

My boss doesnt have such a high opinion of Jet BUT who knows the bandsaw might be outsourced to a better company.
it's more a function of 5 x 6 vs 7 x 12 and such... the 5 x 6's are all kinda chincy, 7 x 12 in grizzly, jet, etc steps up to a MUCH beefier saw..

That's the one I have, too. About $400 through Northern Tool six years ago. I also have an Old Milwaukee 14" chop saw; on sale, last demo model and some good haggling = out the door for $80.
No doubt the band saw is much more accurate and cuts cleaner than the shop saw. The chop saw is great for quickly hacking through smaller stuff but quickly looses accuracy as the depth of cut increases. If I had to choose one I'd pick the band saw.
