Has anyone every tried these Clear mud flaps. I don't like mud flaps but I need them for NJ inspection. I love the look of the tires from the rear and I don't want to hide it with big rubber mud flaps so i guess there clear flaps are the best of both worlds, looks and function. Just wonding if you think they would fade or chip or anything like turn hassy, I am talking street driving, I doubt they would last off road.

what parts of nj are you in?
im outside of philly....

im liking them too.. but they are azzraping expensive!!!!!!!!!!

dont forget you need front and back mudflaps in nj...
i got mad as i failed for no fronts last time... and told them it didnt come with them stock.. the guy said the truck didnt come with 40" hawgs stock too... oooooh he got me....

Respectfully, I think those clear flaps look horrible. And they will get dirty right away and be visible from both sides.

they weigh your truck with 4 scales...

then you drive up that.. 3' wall.. dont look like it but it is....

then the bottom is a scale on the long side .... they weigh it again...

too much % weight shift and you fail.. they figure you will flex and be top heavy....

Man, I'm glad I live in Kans-Ass sometimes. None of that inspection crap here. :woot:

I'm close, in Marlton (cherry hill area, RT70 and RT73 area), about 35min from williamstown I use to do some work down your way. I feel like I saw your truck like a week ago up in my area, it was in front of laurel oak garden center, near cherokee high school, but I am not sure if it was to, but it was big and bad like your truck. I am guess the reason you can run 40 inch tires is beause you have a 1 ton and for that GVW the limit is 11.5 inchs above stock (i think). How much lift do you have to run 40 inch tires, does 8 inches with the cut outs fit 40's?
Are the people at the winslow inspection a pain?

I want to lift my blazer 6 inchs and run 36" or 37" tires, of course I will need fender flares and probably get the cut outs to run a larger tire. I didn't know that you needed front mud flaps, that blows, I hate the look of mud flap that is why i was thinking about the clear one, I don't off road or anything right now but if I lift it I may do some trail riding, nothing to hard core thats why i was thinking about the clear flaps plus I really want to do a resto-mod on my blazer, get a rust free tub from out west, anyway,
I would love to see your truck, maybe we could meet up sometime, that truck looks sweet.
It is rare to see and old chevy truck on the road, and even more rare to see one as cool as yours.

Tom

The guy selling those flaps is from Bakersfield CA. That's where i live. There is a TON of trucks here running those clear flaps. I friggin hate them, big time!!!! No disrespect to anyone on CK5. The reason being, here, everyone has a new Chevy with 18" lift running 35-40" tires. They NEVER take them off road. They spend thousand and thousands for lift and 22" rims and 37" tires and have never takin them off road. I hate that!!! So, being around them everyday, I think they are ghey!

But for you, I think they wouldn't look bad. Sorry for the rant guys.

Are they lexan? You could make them cheaper than it would cost to buy and ship them to you, I think.

afaik, you shouldn't be getting checked for mudflaps anymore in Joysey, at least on a standard inspection... maybe on a stability check... but regular inspection should just be a sniffer test now...

well i am next to geets diner on the black horse pike....

sure we can meet up... it wasnt my truck you saw.... mine hasnt touched the roads in 2.5 years... although it will hopefully in a month..
The other night i sanded and primered the tailgate and passenger bedside...
yesterday before the rain (took a me day from work) and got the passenger fender, door, bed side, roof and hood sanded and primed...

next is take the snorkel off and get the passenger side door and fender.....i left them for last as they are in the worst shape.....

gonna hate to say this but im gonna paint the truck FORD blue!!!!! tractor supply on crosskeys road has it for $32 a gallon.. only blue they have... you use a roller and paintbrush as it is farm equipment paint.... figure that will be easy to touch up....

my lift is tricky... i still dont know what it all entails.... i can tell you one thing... my truck is a camper special so it is a 8400gvrw which puts me in the highest category... think it is
gvrw 0 - 4500 - 35's and 7" total lift
gvrw 4501 - 7400 - 36's and 9" total lift
gvrw 7401 - 10000 - 38's and 11" total lift

forget the numbers.. call them up and say... hey i have X and what is the max i can do...

basically i had to fit 38's under my truck and keep the door at 33" to the bottom with the door open.. (thank god as my upper door hinge is broke and the door droops about an inch... hahaha im keeping it that way for that reason....

the original guy (Dave) was cool... too cool.. they moved him to Manahawkin.... when i went there.. I failed for emissions... I came back a month later running guaranteed to pass and passed emmissions... then he said.. hey just to let you know.. here are a few things i would recommend fixing.... but still passed me...

now they moved him and got a pair of toughies in there... they didnt like my coat hangers holding up my exhaust, they didnt like my power steering puking on their floor....

legit failures...
no front mudflaps
too many aux lights.... allowed only 2... i have 4 on front bumper and 5 on rollbar.. even though 5 on rollbar are for show as they are broke and not wired.. they didnt care...

best thing i found is call them every 2 years before inspection and talk to them and see what has changed, not changed and save yourself alot of headaches.. plus they appreciate it.. if you call and say.. hey i want to make sure i make this easy on you and myself... then when you are scheduled to go... remind him...

afaik, you shouldn't be getting checked for mudflaps anymore in Joysey, at least on a standard inspection... maybe on a stability check... but regular inspection should just be a sniffer test now...

oooh contrair... i have to call and find out myself because they are doing that on normal inspection.... but even there.. they are only doing the sniff test.... but if you have tint.... they cant fail you but the cop can pull you over right as you pull out of inspection....

it is to lower the workers needed to operate state inspections....

i will update what is needed by the high rise test in a bit....

well this sucks...

i just called them and they say still doing full bore testing...

however they brought up some things that are not making me happy...

front mudflaps are needed but will not fail you for it if that is the only thing...

since my truck passed the tilt test in 2004... i dont have to take it again unless they find something they dont like in the steering...

now the kicker... the guy said 40" hawgs will not pass.. i mentioned that they are 38.8" as stated on my papers.... he said... 38.0 is it!!!!!
im not happy about that.... he said they will have to see it to let me know if it will pass.. wonder if i can find a trailer to borrow..... and take it to them......

now i dont want to do it... but if i have to I will need to borrow someones tires and go through inspection... but then the tire manufacture and size gets put on your inspection sticker and paperwork.... so tough to get through with one set, switch and use....

New Jersey(NJPS Title 39; NJAC Title 13, Chapter 20)Summary:Unless you're on the clock (and possibly a New Jersey DMV employee with questions about benefits), reading this code isn't recommended. However, New Jersey is one of the few states that offer stability testing to certify High Rise 4x4s having more than 4 inches of lift. Lifts up to 11 inches are legal under certain circumstances. (Regular safety inspections are required for all street-licensed vehicles.) Internet chatter claims that exemptions are granted to vehicles that are on the books as having 10,000-plus GVWRs.General Vehicle Inspection Standards (NJAC §13-20-32):They're extensive; here's a link to the specifics: www.epa.gov/region02/air/sip/13_20-Sub32.pdf"High-Rise" Vehicles (NJAC §13:20-37.3):Vehicle lifted more than 4 inches above stock are classified as High Rise and must undergo stability testing at a state facility. Here are some of the inspection/test criteria for an Elevated Vehicle Approval Certificate:

 • Steering gear ratios and steering wheel left stop to right stop turns must be within a half-turn of the original manufacturer's specifications.
 • Headlights shall be mounted no lower than 22 inches nor more than 54 inches above the ground.
 • Taillights shall be mounted no lower than 15 inches nor more than 72 inches above the ground.
 • Off-road lights must be covered while operating on public roads.
 • License plates must be mounted no less than 12 inches nor more than 48 inches above the ground.
 • Brake lines and hoses must be protected from excess heat and vibration. They must be mounted in a manner to prevent chafing, undue wear, stress, or unintentional disconnection.
 • Vehicles originally equipped with bumpers must have them securely fastened, no less than 16 inches from the ground to the bottom of the bumper, and shall extend the full width of the vehicle.
 • Maximum tire diameter allowed will be either 38 inches or else 6 inches over stock, whichever is less.
 • All tires must be the same size. Maximum tire pressure as stated on tire is recommended. Front tires must be at least 60 percent of the thread width of the rear tires.
 • Front fenders must extend over the full width of the tire thread. Rear tires that are not covered by the fender or other body parts must be equipped with metal protectors or flexible flaps that prevent dirt, debris and water from being thrown.
 • Exposed fuel tanks must be encased. Side-mounted tanks must have a protective bar to prevent rupture.
 • Releasing the steering wheel in a sharp turn shall result in an increase in turning radius.
 • Spacers to increase track width are prohibited.
 • No blocks are allowed on the front suspension.

I always wondered what the tilt test looked like, lived there 25 years never saw it, built street cars back then. Seems like my Burb would pass with flying colors maybe I will more back just to register it :haha:

NJ Nazi's inspectors would fail my cars cuz the shift indicator wasn't working, hated that place sometimes.

made a call...

for qq tags... i dont have to go to trenton...
i have to fill it out..
mail it back....
2 pictures one front and one back showing it has not been altered in anyway....

well i think that is a show stopper then... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

im gonna paint the truck.. get the exhaust fixed (currently dumps under the bed but is legal)...paint the truck... make it as nice and clean as i can... get it registered, insured and take to them...

if they mention failing it for the .8 on the tire size... ill see if i can persuade them (no not offering cash.....) but merely.. hey it was passed before.. please let me through and when the tires need to be replaced i will get the next size down.... who knows.... cuz if it fails... then borrow tire time.... :dunno:

Maybe they will measure tire height from the ground - and you can be a few psi shy that day.

yeah, I'm running 38 TSL's, but I'll more than likely dig up some 35 malls for inspection... my 38's have a little dryrot on em...

think i'll run it thru with just back mudflaps on when the time comes... i have a local guy for the sniffer part, he's pretty laid back..

what do the hi-rise guys check? tilt, flaps, tire size..... they do brake testing? or is it just if they don't like something?

Make it easier on your life and your truck: move out of NJ.......now!

they check the simpleton stuff first..

any leaks
headlights
highbeams
turn sigs
horn
wipers
brakes
emissions

they jack the front up and shake the hell out of it

make sure nothing is boogered.. all good lift parts... no blocks up front.. but my ord zero rates passed with 0 questions...

back mudflaps
front mudflaps
only 2 aux lights
exhaust needs to exit vehicle.. unless pickup.. can dump 12" behind cab which is how mine is.. only cuz i havent figured out what i want to do yet... thinking flappers up through the bed...

the real problem with swapping tires is if you go to events... and the cops ask for your paperwork or look at your windshield... or DOT pulls you over and asks.. or local cops pick on ya.. once they know the truck and if you are out of compliance.. $146 fine... each day they get you....

see sticker next to regular...
