Clunky rear end

The truck has a 203 with part time kit. I also have another 203 on the side of the house, also part time.

If this one is getting a bit stretched in the chain. Is this kit worth buying and fixing my other 203 or the one presently in the truck with it?

Will this kit keep it part time or not?

That kit is a “small parts kit” only - no chain, sprockets etc. Don’t forget about the sprockets - a lot of slop can come from that area.

Whats the best road to take here? Try to find a 205 and fix that up? I know I'll need my drive shaft redone etc. And tranny adapter.

But what's the best course of action?

My other 203 was fine just a bit leaky.

That’s a personal call but if it were mine I would be inclined to go with the all gear 205.

That's what I'm thinking.

I have a th350 what spline count am I lookin for with the 205. A local guy has a few with flange front outputs which is what my front DS is already.

Check out this item on OfferUp. https://offerup.co/jzIJdwakiub

Yes, the GM round pattern 205’s are all big-bearing 32-splined units.

Unfortunately none of those 205’s in that “offer up” link you posted are 27-spline but it is possible to use a 10-spline case that came behind a 465 from 77~84 ( those are mainly the years with the 30-spline flanged front output that you are looking for ) by using a coupler sleeve that is 27x10.
you would still need a TH350 to 205 figure eight adapter.

With the 14b it actually is easier cause you can move the adjusters and dial it in. I have never set the pinion depth…

Here’s another option from right here in our own back yard….just a PM away to see if it’s still there.

@tarussell
Edit: found the thread for the adapter.

Second one says no shipping.

The guy in the offer up add says the only 205's he has left are 10 spline but could convert it to 27 if I'm interested. Depending what $ he has I may do that or just try the ORD coupler, which ever is cheaper

In the “transmission “ classified section it is the seventh one down. Probably just skipped over it in your excitement to be purchasing cool parts…Ha,ha !
