colbystephens' '73 blazer build!

Hey Colby.. check this out.. yeah, it's a Bronco.. but he's got some sort of soft doors on it. Interesting idea...

hmmm.... very interesting. i've got an idea in my head to use half doors and make a frame to support a canvas window - there's a soft top maker across the street from work - so i think i'll make the frame and they can make the canvas! :)

I'd not use canvas, Colby. That soft top maker can probably get the clear vinyl used in some convertible rear windows. I'd use that so you can actually see out vs. using canvas, which you can't see through! :D

I need to subscribe to this thread, since I keep forgetting it's here.

colby I some how missed this.

those rockers can turn out nice when time is not an issue, I like how your putting some brain work into this build for the all weather use!

well, right, canvas w/ clear windows ofcourse.

thanks for the compliments, shawn. :)

so for the valentine's day, my lady saved up her tips from work and paid for me to buy the frame for a JD2 tube bender! :D just gotta get the die and the tube now... yikes! i'm going to build the stand for it myself - that keeps the cost down about $200 since they charge so damn much for the stands... anyway, i gots me a good lady!! :D

thats awesome, I got 5 point harnesses best valentines day i ever had.

your build is coming out very nice

I to have been thinking about some light weight doors i am interested to see what you come up with

Looking good Colby. Have you seen pics of my soft doors?

Thanks for posting those pics bigjbear. Got any shots of the framework for the door?

Give me until next weekend and I take some for you. They are in the garage attic right now. I know mine don't go all the way down, but that would just be a matter of extending the frame lower.

I'm actually thinking of redoing them when I mount them on the '80. I need to match the rounded door jamb (at the window) now. When I do I'm thinking about putting a piece of aluminium at the bottom where the gap is. I'll probably extend the frame down and attach it with Adell clamps.

cool - yeah, i think i'd do mine different from yours, but i'd like to see the frame. :D

so here's some things i've been thinking about:

1. Colors.

originally i was wanting to repaint it that green color - like it is now, only so that it looks good. :wink1: now i'm considering painting it kind of a burnt orange color - kind of like the interior of my wife's car:

the door panel and seat are actually the same color, tho the pic doesn't snow it. i'd say that the true color there is actually somewhere between the two. kinda like this color (ck5 username escapes me at the moment):

boz? i think.

what ever i do, i'm thinking i'll paint the removable tranny tunnel and my center console the same color as the truck (i am going to do my center console out of 2 ammo cans - like i have in my '83):

i'm going to put another ammo can between the 2 back seats, but there's only room for one. all of that will be locking storage and painted the body color. should stand out nice with my black herc.ed interior.

i can't remember if i posted this already or not, but i got hooked up by a ck5'er with a york a/c pump from a semi truck - should put out some SERIUOS amounts of air. i'm thinking to get a couple small air tanks - perhaps even small welding air tanks, and mounting them to the roll cage behind the back seats. i think with that big ass air pump and a couple tanks, i should be able to run air tools pretty easily which would make trail fixes a snap. i think i'll paint the tanks the same color as the truck too. :D

for now, i wait. :wink1:

I don't know how I missed this, but great looking build.

thats cool stuff colby. im hoping to order my tubing bender the end of next week. i picked up a york the other day from a scrapyard off a semi for $2.38

bender

How are you mounting it? Are you going to make a stand for that bender? That thing is badass.
