colbystephens' '73 blazer build!

That is fantastic! Are you tying the cage to the frame?
yeah, i'm going to hard mount it to the frame - but it's got to get onto the frame under my current dd first! :D my hope is to make it an 8 point cage - one mount under each row of seats in addition to the usual 6 - so that should definitely take care of any body to frame flex. ;)

thanks for the compliments guys! i'm sure stoked about the cage - it is really coming together nicely. i have mucho respect for others who have done this, now that i'm doing it and seeing how involved it is. lots of critical thinking, planning and math!

well, got three more pieces bent up today. i'm real happy with how it's all coming together. the glove box even opens! :D all of the difficult bends are done, so the rest should come together pretty quick and easy! :wink1: once i get it pretty much done, i'll go back and add gussets and what not too...

still gotta do the floor level stuff, including the seat mounts, the belt mounts and the top of the cage triangulation... and the triangulation of the sides near the rear seats. :o

much props to jonathon (ck5er) for helping me out today!

colby, just how I like it,

but on your b-pillar, it looks killer if you run a second tube along the other one. Adds a little beef and looks nice! look at the 86 cage

What size tube are you using? You will want to triangulate the C pillrs too. Think about tieing it into the frame. When I rolled my Blazer I bent the crap out of my C pillar shifting the cage to the passanger side. The bed area under the C pillar bent down as well.

Shawn - ikm not much a fan of doubling up the B pillar - but thanks for the idea!

Spoolinaround- yeah, it's all going to be hard mounted to the frame. I still have a ton of triangulation to do, so there will be much more support on that C pillar. ;)

1 3/4 tube

I added three more tubes this afternoon - top of the windsheild frame and two bars that go over front seat heads... Pics tomorrow.

shawn - thanks for the info on the gussets. i'll have to look into that. i also like kert's web gussets. :)

oh yeah, i saw a vendor on here who is selling those too - real cheap. i think his are specifically 45* tho... i've been thinking about those. :)

i got some more tube yesterday. my goal to do it all in 100' didn't work out so well... oh well. my triangulation really made the length add up! more pics probably tonite or tomorrow. i'm hoping to have it "done" tomorrow. i'll still need to order and install brackets to actually mount the seats/seat belts. but it's coming along real nice! :D

at this point, the cage has 6 more pieces of tubing added to it for triangulation. need one more to finish up the triangulation - then i might add some optional extra triangles. :wink1:

still gotta do the floor, belt mounts, seat mounts.

thanks. i've been doing about 3 to 4 pieces of tube per day, with a day off here or there, so it goes quick if you can do little bits here and there. :)

Needs more triangulation....................

J/K that seems to be the standard response to a cage build. Looks great! :waytogo:
