Considering becoming a traitor.

Go full width on the CJ it will be very flexy. A buddy of mine just got a 10 bolt and 12 bolt under his. I have yet to see it but i know its gonna flex like a mo fo. Plus you can buy stuff from poison spider and they have cool stickers.:haha:

I saw it...isn't it gonna be kinda fattycakes?

What made you ditch the fullsize cab?

What the hell are fattycakes:confused::haha:

Its alot narrower than a fullsize Chevy. My 42s hung outside of the front fenders on the Chevy by a couple inches per side. With the Toyota body on there I will have about 10.5 inches of tire hangin out per side :pimp: Its gonna look like one of those Stomper toy little trucks :D

I did it because my needs changed.I wanted a back seat and something narrower at the same time.As far as vehicle selection,I left it up to my club.I told them I wanted something pre smog, clean title, back seat, narrow, and different. They find it and I will build it.This is what they came up with :D

My first pick was a CJ6.It has the same wheelbase as a Blazer. If you stretch your Jeep you should do it between the door opening and the rear wheel well so it doesnt look funny.

This is a CJ6

OK here's what you do. keep the k5 body, just narrow the entire body. Not just the front clip and rear 1/4s. Im talkin the whole thing. Move the radiator and batterys to the back. Put an aluminum head 350 in it (to keep front end weight down). Maybe replace front sheet metal with fiberglass body panels.

If possible move drivetrain back for better weight distribution. What do ya think? If you dont do it then I am.

I'm thinking about the Jeep again. My K5 is stripped out, narrowed and still weighs 5480 with no cage yet. :o 44" tires now too, and the K5 frame keeps threatening to break in half.
Goes anywhere it fits, prollem is it doesn't fit. I have a buddy with a tube chassis buggy with the same drivetrain as I that weighs 3700. I know I won't get that low, but... I'm getting tired of trailering it all the time too. I want less body but streetlegal (removable fender extensions).
One issue I have now is that the driver tire hits the steering box on the K5. If I use the Jeep frame, this will no longer be an issue, but the frame will have to be beefed and stretched in the middle and the ends. Could chop a 1 ton chevy frame I have and go full hydro, but already have assist.

I'd like about 115" WB, or at least K5 WB. Gotta have room for fullsize drivetrain, gonna have a doubler eventually too. Wonder how goofy it would look if I left the body alone and extended the frame at the ends and just moved the axles out. Would keep it low, which is another goal.

Find a clapped out rust-free Toyota. Problem solved. I'm running a 115" wheelbase on my 4Runner and it looks pretty natural. Light body. Light, compact, fully boxed frame. Easy to fit a V8 into.

I don't dig them for some reason. Already have jeep, registered, just nonop. Can put it back on the road without any transfer, inspection, etc.

I dig Jeeps, it's just that everyone I know with one is an asshole, and I'm therefore drawn to Toyotas. If the Jeep with work, use it! Fullsizes just plain don't fit a lot of places are are extremely heavy.

I have resisted going (back) to the jeep for a long time because of the fact that everyone has one, and most of them are lame. But not everyone has a stretched one on one tons and 44s, and neither it nor I am lame. :D

That number seems really high, anything in particular that might make it extra heavy? Mine weighed 5200 lbs before I cut it up (on 1 tons), it weighs 4400 now. Add ~200 lbs to each number for tools etc.

I've seen it and it has never looked good to me. Too much difference in wheelbase, adding 22" to the wheelbase won't even come close to matching the body.

A lot of your weight is coming from the drivetrain, nothing will be super light with a V8, doubler and one tons on big tires.

Why try and keep it street legal if you can trailer it? I can appreciate driving it on the street sometimes (mine is still registered/insured and I drive it on the street from time to time, its pretty close to street legal here) but when you start wheeling it hard you open up some potentially dangerous/sucky situations (i.e. a steering knuckle that cracks and doesn't let go until you're on the highway, same thing with steering studs). Depending on the vehicle to get you home can be bad too.

I'd keep the K5, tube (for the cage) doesn't weigh all that much. If you tie the cage to the frame you will help the frame survive.
