contura switches

I've got tons of actuators.. soft touch, lens in the 3 colors, red, orange and green (man, I wish they made a blue lens!)

but my actual switch selection is not huge at this point.. I run mostly DPDT switchs on my stuff, but have a few DPST too.. The reason I haven't offered any up yet is, well honestly, I don't know exactly what I'm gonna run yet... :doah: :haha:

you say dpst and dpdt so I get the meaning...

double pole, single throw and double pole, double throw...

what is the main difference???

I did order up my stuff.. here are a few shots... I already have extras too :wink1:

switches... 5 for my opening above my radio and 2 for where the old 70's wipers go.... I even bought the terminals and terminal box.. it is cool so all my wires will stay together in the beautiful box when you unplug the switch....

butt connectors (hee hee - he said butt )
2 battery terminals
all the stuff to do the packard 280 waterproof plugs (as posted by 73k5blazer posted here http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196166 )
contura actuators, rockers, terminals, brackets (corners and middles)

I also bought 100' of .500" wire loom (sorry no pic :haha: )

but have pics of the accessories I bought for it...
T-Connector, end pieces, part that connects the loom to fenders or firewall, barrel connector (can break wires out and keeps loom together where you dont need a T

All in all I spent some money.... but the place I bought this stuff was GREAT!!!!
I only had 1 issue with my order....
they sent me the Metri-Pack 280 series Male 2 wire pieces but sent me the wrong ones.... so I have to call them back...

plus I need to order more anyway... :wink1:
I ordered the actuators in...
On - Off ==> for lights and accessories...
On - Off - On ==> for winch controls but screwed up...
I needed Mom On - Off - Mom On so have to order them tomorrow....

not a biggie though...
well gotta go study for my Altiris Deployment Server test tomorrow...
65 questions in 60 minutes and on a computer in a testing center.... SUCKS...
hope im ready....

p.s. now all I need is the weather to get warmer to tear the truck apart....

I did get a price from 12volt guy as his was SAWEET lookin... so no offense that I didnt buy from him.....

but his was $119 plus shipping..
I did all 5 as shown and the 2 others... with the terminals for wires and the box the terminals plug into for
$65

and that left TONS of extras.... well tons of terminals, terminal boxes and 3 dual red light rockers.....

very cool... I think you'll be quite happy with them... think I spent 90ish and got a ton of stuff...

I'm loving mine, so functional.. looking good is a nice side bonus...

hopefully by the summer, i'll have my boatname painter friend do some freehand labeling under them in my copper base... should be trick...

ok update... I love these switches....
got 3 in...
Also I wire stuff up so crappy.. but not anymore.. I actually bought everything to do correct wiring jobs...
back of switches with wiring blocks and connectors, wire loom.... look how clean...
contura1.jpg

5 wires in that wire loom.... used the loom, loom ends and 1 loom barrel that allows wires to come out and not pull apart... that was my ground wire to the ground block...
contura2.jpg

I had to cut the face plate alot due to my old switches.....
I had 4 but only need 3 now...

I actually used a mudflap for those switches.. .and rivited them onto the cover.... :haha:
think it came out pretty good...
:wink1:

looks great.... dig the green... those are the soft touch right? What are the functions?

btw, if you need to use crimp style connectors, DON't use those crappy hard plastic ones... Good to get you by in a pinch, but invest in the ones that are built-in shrink tube.. far, far superior... I wince everytime I see those plastic ones in use...

are you talking the butt connectors or the one that you see under the column or on the relay packs?
if those are the ones you are talking about.. that is what started this all.. I had to take my kc's off for inspection.... however I was having problems getting them unplugged.... if you are talking the butt connectors... yeah i saw the shrink tube ones... but was cheaper for me to buy shrink tubing... which hasnt come in yet...

Yeah, I meant the blue butt's...

I could tell they where the soft touch by the coloration.. the hard ones are much shinier... i prefer the soft touch too....

Some links for switches...

Here's a couple of links I've stumbled upon. The first is for the switches, and also rockers with diagrams on them. Note especially that the rockers are purchased alone, meaning if you already have switches you can now have diagrams on them.

http://ig4x4.com/cat23_1.htm

This place also has switches. I bring it to your attention mostly because if you aren't picky check out the price on the second item...$25!

http://www.greatlakesskipper.com/searchproducts.cfm?Criteria=carling switches&Page=1

And finally from the source itself, perhaps it is now common knowledge, but all the threads I found didn't seem to realize that you CAN order switches with diagrams check out the 'library' in red halfway down the page...

good links... I take it your thinking of going that route?

I just assumed when I had posted the link to Carling, that everyone cruised thru and saw the pdf's...

I find the switches run me $5 to about 10 depending on how crazy the switch...

Well I noticed in this and other threads, everyone seemed to think that they weren't available to the average Joe. I decided to use this thread because it was pretty informative already.

Perhaps you can give me some input in regards to relays in my other thread? See my last post if you are interested. Thanks.

well, specified legends are not available, but unmarked are pretty available... Waytek and a few others, especially marine orientated...

There are a few slightly older threads than this that get pretty extensive on the conturas too.... Actually I think my original dash thread had quite a bit on them... try this one.... http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138074&highlight=dash+pics

I'll take a peek at the relay thing in the morn, I'm SURE I'll have an opinion.... :wink1::haha:

nope, your not misunderstanding, your misunderstanding Carling..

Just because they show you on that pdf, doesn't mean they are available, because they're not, unless your spending $5000.

The only thing you can do, beside hitting up a marine manufacturer such as Sea Ray, etc, is to search their distributor stock for what your looking for... ain't gonna happen.. trust me, I've looked..

http://www.carlingtech.com/support/product_search.asp?type=distributor+stock

Keep in mind too, that the legend list IS marine orientated, tho suitable substitutes could be found for most things....
