Coolest D60 part ever!!!!

There was Jeep at the last 4 wheelpart's show in San Mateo that was running those. Talk about ground clearance.

Looks like the most expensive 8" lift kit ever made :D J/K, that would be an awesome product if you could work out all the clearance issues. 2" spring lift and 44's, I love it :D

where the hell are the brakes???

must need a drive line brake.

look like it would add width too, need massive back spaced rim to tuck them back in

cool though pricy but too, mogd60:thumb:

I'm sure you could clear those portal boxes with 22's  :rotfl:

Anyone else see a potential problem with gearing? I think the numerically lowest gears available for a 60 are 3.54. The means with the portal boxes you've got 7.08 gears at the very least. With my 4.56 gears that'd be 9.12:1  Hellooooo michelin military tires!

I see a potential bent housing problem. The lever length those have on a stock housing is huge.

not to mention the leverage on the inner Cs, breakage of them under standard hardcore abuse is not unheard of.

i almost postive thats a d44, theres no point in have a d60 b/c the portals take a lot of pressure of the diff

Anyone who buys these with the intent of using them probably won't be installing them on a "stock" D60.
Dedenbear C's, big chromoly tubes, strategically-placed bracing, RockJock/ProRock/etc. centersection... make it a 44/60 hybrid. Probably still wouldn't last under a fullsize, seeing how it's from a Heep company.
Too hardcore for me, but still interesting...

They note its a Rockcrusher Dana 60

Yeah, you'd definitely have to have a well built 60 to keep from bending or breaking anything. However, if they build the portal boxes strong enough to take the pounding, I'd be willing to bet you could build a 60 to make it work under a fullsize. My main problem with it is that it looks like this jeep is leaf sprung. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here but those portal boxes essentially act like blocks when it comes to spring wrap because of the lowered "axleshaft" centerline in comparison to the springs.

I'm always interested to see innovative 4x4 products....but I'm not sure this is one of those "big ideas".....especially at the price they must be charging for it.

For about $750-$800 you can buy a Mog404 portal axle with a factory selectable locker (and 7.56 gears) and have a well-thought out, proven design.

Portals are WAY cool, but they create there fair share of problems too....like "where do I put my oilpan?" and "why can I only get about 2" of uptravel before I hit the frame?" :D Still.....I think they are a unique approach to getting ground clearance and low CG....if you're willing to re-design most of your chassis to accomodate them.

I also read somewhere that portal axles don't lend themselves well to highway speeds (something about handling - not the gearing), therefore most portal axle vehicles aren't designed to go over 60mph.

ummm, yeah. I am pretty sure the tire is way too far outside the BALL JOINTS to make it usable. too much drop to accomodate getting a rim around the box. Even linked it would handle funny. Got hydro. pretty sure the poo would hit the fan when you bolted these babys one. they have like 3 more inches of drop than a mog.

D60 = Kingpin (with a few exceptions)
