WAY too tall. I can see that thing being on it's side pretty often...

These boxes were not designed for this vehicle. We are currently fabricating a buggy that will have a link suspension for these boxes.

How ever we are designing a new box that will bolt onto a D44 or D60 front and almost any rear axle with a 4" drop and 1.5:1 gear ratio.

If you guys have any questions post up and I will reply asap.

I have a couple of questions, many derived from the above comments:

1. Will these boxes be pretty much for trailered rigs or can they take the highway? Top recommended speeds?
2. With 8 inches of lift, if a rig kept the stock front springs, would it have clearance problems or would you have to use at least 2 inches of spring lift as well or is the 4 inch drop the solution to that problem?
3. Is this a completely custom design or a spin off of other proven portal axles?
4. It is hard to see, but it looks like your setup replaces the knuckles, but retains the original inner C's?
5. For a front D60, would you be adding extra bracing, perhaps even an over the top brace similar to Missouri Offroad or is the extra stress on the axle tubes not that severe?
6. I mapped your shop address and you are out of town a bit. But not so far as to be inaccessible from my neck of the woods. Is your shop open to the public, or do you strictly take online orders and ship from there?

1. For liability issues the boxes are off-road only. However they are designed to handle 70mph with no problem so the speed is not a problem. The smaller boxes will be designed around about 80mph.

2. As far as clearance goes, I have no idea what kind of clearance issues would be involved with your rig. We have only worked on Jeeps so I don't really know about rub issues with chevys.

3. This is a completely custom design to the best of my knowledge. The gears are based off of the granny low gear in a road ranger tranny from a semi.

4. Yes you keep the inner C's.

5. Not sure what you are talking about. Anyone have a picture?

6. We are a private shop. The shop is located on our ranch and depending on what program you used to map it you are anywhere from 10 to 20 miles off we are very remote and no maping programs can pin point our location.

Thanks for the interest.

This is a rear axle truss by Missouri Offroad Outfitters (http://www.mo-offroad.com ). I was wondering if you would have to fab up something similar to handle the additional stress on the tubes and center section.

I saw that when I mapped the shop it was in the boonies. I take it then that the public is not normally going to be allowed for a visit?

As far as we can tell something like that won't be necessary. We won't know for sure until we do further testing. Yes... we live in the boonies so public is not really something that we can have around not to mention most people hate to drive up the road that I live on. There are a few guys that would out of the shop with us but thats about all the people we allow to come up. Sorry.

The jeep in the pict has ball joints but the final run of gear boxes will have kingpins. Changing the steering setup is VERY easy with this setup. The boxes are identical from the back plate out. The front setup just has a lower knuckle tab welded onto the back plate, where the rear box has a cone bolted to the plate instead. The actual housing, gears, and output shafts are identical front to rear.

We stuck some trac bars on the jeep to counter act that. Its an issue, but its easily overcome.

Check the website. We are estimating about $8000 for a set of 4.

Very kewl too see you answering us Chevy guys questions. I think these portals are a awesum idea. I'd like too see them under a full size K5 Blazer. Real coman axle swap for the K5 is a 14 bolt FF rear, and a Dana 60 front. What about breaks ?? Are they disc breaks front and rear ?? I really don't know jack about these things, but think it's awesum. Love the ground clearence. How big of a tire can they handle on a full size rig like the K5 or even a burb ??

I am just amazed at all the interest in this product. I designed it as my mechanical engineering senior project and for a buggy we are building. We were kind of stunned by all the interest. I am just trying to keep up with all the e-mails, calls, and forum threads. As of right now there are about 15 threads on different forums that I am actively posting on. Just keep the questions and comments coming. These boxes are still in prototyping and finish refinement stages so any comments will be considered. We are aiming to produce the best product we can and the more help we get the better the product will be.

These things should be able to handle a K5 but not sure about the burbs (maybe the 4" version but not the 8" boxes). As for a 14 bolt rear thats not a problem. All we need is the diameter of the rear axle tubes and we can custom turn the tube cones to fit that axle tube.
