Craftsmen tools

There's the right tool for the job ... the wrong tool ... and whatever's in your hand at the time.

A screwdriver not only turns screws and opens paint cans, but acts as a prybar, and in a pinch, can be used as a mallet (if it has a rubber handle) or outright hammer (if the handle is thick enough plastic.) :haha:

Yeah, and you and Greg can bring out the claw hammer to work on truck parts. :haha:

Ya know, mister fancy pants, there ARE wood hammers with a flat head a la the ballpeen ... it's just the framing hammers that have the grid pattern in the face.

And look, I found a "You're #1" finger smiley just for you :D

Sorry Aaron, hate to burst your bubble but that says i'm #2. :haha: Damn, you can't even get that right.

I usually use a hammer after i can't get the right tool to work

:D

I'm picky about having the right tools...and i don't even own a ball pien.

Its a claw, or a 3 pound sledge. I'm more likely to buy a bigger sledge than but a ball pein.

Also, harbor freight has a great punch/cold chisel set that has nice rubber handles/hand shields. Allows you to safely use a sledge when you really shouldnt :haha:

I broke something in my craftsman 1/2" ratchet. Went to get a new one, and the new 1/2" drives had a piss poor finish on them, felt like metal sandpaper. Nowhere near the polished chrome of my ratchet. I just asked for a rebuild kit :(

I broke the 1/2" drive off an older Craftsman ratchet that I got like 3rd or 4th hand. It had a really long handle, about double the normal 1/2" drive length. I went to get another, and of course, they don't make them anymore.

I ask for a rebuild kit - ant they told me they didn't make them anymore either!!! But I could trade in that ratchet for a smaller 1/2" one. Hell no.

I still have that ratchet, and I am still looking for a rebuild kit.

Mitch, if you can still get them, grab me one. Nothing but stoopid stores and employees around here. PM me if you can and I'll pay for it.

I recently bought a new set of sockets, with 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4", but no 1/2" drive ratchet. The other two ratchets easily match my older 1/2" ratchet as far as finish. I have used a good number of the sockets in that kit with nothing bad to say about them.

I still buy most of my tools from Sears, simply because they are near my house and good quality. I have owned a few Snap-on tools back in the day, and can't say they are really worth the premium for the average shade tree mechanic. I just wish the local outlet didn't require me to have part numbers to order the stuff in, but we are a small town and they are focused on appliances.
