Crew cab. Use it or lose it.

Air shifters would be real easy...get my an Ag Chem parts manual for a '95 1903 Terragator with an Air Spread box

Hehe

So Kert, care to elaborate on the idea for the push button setup? Any links to others who have done it, any parts ideas, anything? I would love to research this a bit before I get into building my console, as I refuse to build the console twice.

Sure thing bud.

You need two of these,

Bracketry to mount the linear actuators I will fab up myself. My t case has a crossmember over the top of it so very simple to mount them. The linear actuators couple with the controller allows control of both actuators and each actuator can be controlled to 3 positions set by the end user. Which seems to me should work perfectly for the 205 shift rails.

Stopping at preset points gets me to thinking though, would detents still be needed..... I'll have to think about that. I don't know why they would be, which should make the shift easier. Easier shift means less wear and tear on the actuators and bracketry.

I'll let you guys know how it works out. All the parts are on their way.

But with only 3 positions you would lose the neutral setting on the transfer, right? You would have 2 high, 4 high, and 4 low, but nothing for the neutral postion.

Edit: Never mind, I see two controllers with up to three positions, and you could control the twin stick to do high, low, and neutral for front and rear.

Yep, you got it. So far it seems simple (deceptively I'm sure.)

I think it's going to be pretty simple as long as long as the actuators are small enough in diameter that you can mount them fairly close to parallel with the shift rails. Also, I'm pretty sure you will not need the detents. IIRC (haven't clicked on the links, but we've discussed it) the actuators automatically hold the position that they're in when hooked up to one of those controllers. People with air shifter setups have removed the detents and done just fine.

I'm more worried about what salt/corrosion/moisture/vehicular use does to them. BTW, not to detract from this thread, but those of you who own trail rigs with OBA and aren't afraid of plumbing, there is a way to do this with strictly pneumatic components (no electrical components) so as long as you have air pressure you can shift.

Got the actuators in hand as well as the dual controller.

Dual controller is going back in favor of 2 single controllers. The dual brain box has a small switch on it that you use to select the different linear actuators. Problem is the brain box is the piece you kinda need to hide in the console.

On a different note, and sorry for the crappy phone pics. Didn't have a camera with me today.

rocker tube onto the box for one side anyway.

Sorry, I thought you were taking them to show Tracy, I had a beater camera in my car.

It looks pretty badass in person. There's one more surprise for that region that's going to look killer. ;)

Must have better pics in the name of Fabrication Science!

That was actually something I wanted to know about. I know it will cost a bit more for the two controllers, but I wondered about the slide switch to control them. Although I won't be hiding mine, I have an idea about using it for security in less than favorable places.:wink1:

I had thought about using the system for security as well. Wouldn't be to hard to set it up on relays with a hidden switch. Throw it all in Neutral and kill it.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. I am thinking of a way to show when the shift has actually happened, since you won't be able to tell from the cab. Just a simple setup to light some lights to indicate where the rails are, should be very easy to create, and make it nice inside. Then I can switch to SPST momentary switches to run the controller, just a bit of added security.

Edit: That is assuming the controller doesn't show when the actuator has moved to the preset stop point. If it does then I don't have to worry about it.

Say Kert how big of a project was it to do the tubeing like that on your cap...Im thinking about doing that to my K5 after I get blue back on the road. Check your PMs too...
