Crew cab. Use it or lose it.

Out of time for investigating the other cable ideas. I'll have to get back to that. For now i'll have to just go with a factory replacement. Mine is kinked up pretty good.

Does anybody know off the top of their head if the wire color coding for the headlights, horns and washer pump all the stuff on that leg of the front end harness stayed the same, comparing an '85 to a 88-91?

Seems the plugs in the firewall are different shape so not a direct swap. Gona have to graft two harnesse together. So far I haven't had time to lay them side by side and compare the color coding.

I can't say for sure on the wiper stuff, but the headlight/marker light stuff should all be the same color through the years.

Got the two side by side tonight and just did a quick color and count check and something is different.

More wires in the newer harness than the old. Colors are similar but not quite the same. Some age has an effect here as well. Time to pull them apart and start grafting.

OK, count is different because some of the newer harness has two wires coming out of the firewall plug that in the older, are split off later down the loom.

Color coding is basically the same.

One wire, brown with a white stripe which I believe is for a brake idiot light, that wire is not in the newer headlight loom.

Wiring harness is in. Grill is on. 91 grill looks much better.

Needs headlight bezels. Waterneck and thermostat, fuel pump and a trans fluid change. Need some hoses hooked up and a few loose wires. Should be ready to roll soon.

Very cool Kert, that thing is a beast. Very cool tow truck!

We'll need some updated pics now of course:sign14:

Here's a pic of the new grill. Headlight bezels are basically just sitting there. They don't fit quite right and need a small amount of trimming on the back side to clear the turnsignal housings. Nothing major.

Yah, I'm liking the stealthy look you have Kert.

Hey, so did you use your 80s finders with the new core support? I was always told it was "not possible" because a few of the bolts dont line up.

Everything went right together as far as bolt holes goes. All of it lined up fine. It's the wiring that needs to be finaggled around a bit. Nothing to serious though.

It lives.

Power steering resevoir to finish up and its back on the road again.

Sometime in the next few weeks i'll regear the rear axle, swap the front axle out for the HP60 and then a fresh set of radials.

So was the trim chrome and you painted it all? I plan on doing the same to my stuff the same as yours but wasn't sure how good it'd stick :dunno:

I scuffed it down pretty good with 80grit. Wouldn't probably have needed such a course grit. It was available and worked just fine with 2 or 3 good coats of the flat black.

The gray color the trim pieces had on them was over top of the same chrome stuff. Skuffing them down I wen through the gray color in a few spots and found the chrome lurking beneath.
