How much was that? Looks like probably already gone
Not likely at that price. How much was that? Looks like probably already gone
I'm wondering if he means it's an engine driven hydraulic pump, I've seen those quite a few times.I would definitely want to see how that engine mount PTO is mounted. Seems like it would slip under power vs. a PTO that was gear driven off the trans or transfer case.
Ehh, that isn't too big from my experience. It used to be that there was either a one ton or a medium duty which often still had hydraulic brakes. And they couldn't get into some places as easily.Too vague. Is it even a K30 1 ton? Doesn’t say that at all. Never understood a big ass wrecker setup on a 1 ton chassis.
Weren't the Holmes tow trucks based on a Chevy C30 chassis? The gas station that I worked at in high school had one but I can't remember if it was a C30 or bigger. I know it had a 454 in it.Ehh, that isn't too big from my experience. It used to be that there was either a one ton or a medium duty which often still had hydraulic brakes. I used to run an F350 4wd that would do a heck of a lot of work for its size. The twin line could help a bunch.
It seems like that Chevy was an actual K30 that spent a long time down around Montrose and Ouray. Then when it was pretty tired, it got modified to what you see in the pictures. And I believe that it was a engine mounted, electric clutch pump. Been several years since I saw it up close. I wouldn't want to use it as is. Put the bed on a newer low-pro 4wd medium duty chassis.
There were a bunch of sizes from Holmes. I never got around anything smaller than a 500 much. I cut my teeth on a 750, ran and 1701 for several years too.Weren't the Holmes tow trucks based on a Chevy C30 chassis? I wish there were more TV shows that dealt with tow trucks and recovery. That one that was based out of British Columbia had some interesting episodes. Kind of a cheap way to learn more of the physics behind winching. There were a bunch of sizes from Holmes. I never got around anything smaller than a 500 much. Our little one ton had a Protech II on it. Nice, heavy unit. Stood that truck on its butt lots of times chained to Scotch blocks, (as we called them) . The 750 tied down did some work, too!
I think that the C30 chassis was an improvement when compared to the old days!! The history of towing is pretty cool IMO.
