Definitely not original under the hood. AC compressor isn’t right for the year model either. Should have the semi serpentine belt drive too.
Look at the firewall and you will see the fuel filter mounting point from the block filter.Probably was a diesel.
Or someone like me got them from a diesel and put them in a gas truck
if its safe for the road yes . but depending on state laws you might need tow truck insurance and its NOT CHEEP . also tow truck endorsement on driver license might be required .https://www.facebook.com/share/1RVfJfu6WN/
EDIT: I had some questions about whether you could use this truck on the highway, but Google answered them I think.
My understanding on them is,
If it not being used for commercial purposes, no endorsement is needed. For private use, it is just like pulling a trailer. But you are better off checking. Make sure they understand that you are using it for private hauls only.
Insuring it might be another issue though.
While I love these vans, had a 1979 and 1989, but once I drove a 96 and up with the vortec 5.7, I wouldn't go back to carb or tbi.I don't want a payment, and I just bought garage doors with the Credit card.....
But I'm contemplating buying this while I can.
The wife and I have been talking about getting one to use as a 2 person camper in a few years.
But this is the right price and NICE!

Not to mention the interior design kept getting better with outfitters.
My 89 was much nicer than the 79 with a nice high top, wet bar, fridge and smooth carpet.
The 79 had simple interior with shag carpet.
My 97 was nice but no fridge and the 2000 I just bought was gutted so I am building it as a camper my way. Paid $800
They come up often by here, maybe I can trade you for on of the diesels you gotDon't get me wrong, I love my '00 and '13 extended wheelbase passenger vans. More interior space and FAR easier to work on than the old vans... but if someone offered me a clean G30 as a trade, I'm 98% sure I'd take the deal.
Not me.
