In the case that I need to pick up a new trans I found a HD case th400 out of an 85-87 cucv, cheap.
Now my 84 crew cab has an np205, do the 208s share the same input shaft? Thanks guys

No. You'll need a th400 to 205 figure 8 or round adapter and a long 32 spline np205 input gear.

The CUCV TH400 is a normal diesel tranny. Being diesel it has a different governor spring with lower shift points, but it's not any stronger than a civilian tranny.

Diesels have a 6 bolt converter with a lower stall speed also--but GM used them behind some gas engine applications too--I remember a G-30 van my brother bought that had a TH400 in it,to swap in place of the manual 3 speed his had,was equipped with the 6 bolt torque converter..the van had a 292 straight six,was a former handicapped school bus..

Yea it looks like even though it's cheap I'll probably have to pull and rebuild this one. I was trying to hold out bc I have an L 18/ally combo to put in and I don't want to double the work
