CUCV mild usage build. Nothing radical here, move along now.

View attachment 230328

This belongs to my second born. That is the "second episode" and my new hope to have a son to share some knowledge with.

Purchased from rompstompinmudmonkey about a month ago or so.

It was originally a military truck, the venerable CUCV M1008. Then owned by the state of South Dakota as a spraying truck and then by rompstompin. The truck has about 31,000 miles on it. The 6.2 diesel runs as smooth as can be.

The truck itself is pretty much rust free, has some character dings and dents. My son has been using it pretty steadily for hauling stuff for renovating his house. It's made countless trips to and from the lumber yard with 2x4 studs, sheet rock and all the other stuff he's been sticking into his house.

Of course, these CUCV's were pretty deeply geared and had a top speed of around 60 mph before you were really pushing the 6.2 liter diesel. That being said, yesterday we threw a set of 37's on it, that I had laying about. Today we did some fender trimming and got to take it for a test drive with the "new" rubber. The death wobble came in around 20 mph and never stopped. A kingpin rebuild kit will be in order as well as some new steering components.

On to the pictures,

He wants to put about 6" of lift on it and I'm doing my best to talk him out of the lift. The way he intends to use it, he'll be better off with an EZ inch kit and a 1" body lift to help with tire clearance and call it good.

This truck will be the R and D truck for an aluminum console and a few other things I've been waiting for the right truck to design them from.

I hope you can talk him out of the lift. It looks great the way it is

Technically speaking, he's borrowing those. I like 'em to.:D

coughZimcough... ;) gotta luv alum slots... been a LONG time since I've run a set... every newer rig with homometals should be runnin a set of those , or hurricanes instead IMO.. :haha:

I'm not opposed to a 4" or so total lift... ez and 2 or 3"s or something.. I'm not a fan of stock suspension, cut to fit 37, 38's look.. it's out of proportion to me...

I would say lift it no more then 4 inches. I have mine up 6 and yea it looks cool but for how my current and future uses of the truck are it being a little lower would be nicer. That's my thought.

1" easy inch

1" body lift

and 4 new quality shocks .

adjust bump stops as needed to keep contact to min .

otherwise looks good .

I to like both old schools . I have both sets and there both western wheel orignals .

I'm not a fan of the stock suspension either. He uses it to haul loads on a pretty regular basis so we're trying to keep it a bit lower for loading and unloading purposes.

I think ultimately, it will be the 1" body and EZ inch kit that get the job done. The tires don't rub now unless you hit a bump while making a turn, then just barely. 2" total would make a world of difference.

Kert you been holding out on me man!!!
You know I'm loving those wheels .
Keeping the stock susp is cool for a street truck IMO
So are the lugnuts shank type?

I figured you'd be saying something along those lines.:thumb:

Yep, the lugnuts, unfortunately, are a shank style lugnut.

I love the brown. It's good to see another cucv on the site.

And, in case your kid needs more ammo for a lift, I'll leave this here. That's your flip with the cross tied shackles and a 4 inch lift with easy inches up front on 37s.

Here is my other M1008 with a 4" lift and 38's. It sits a little taller than I'd like for a work truck. I'll more than likely lower it a

couple inches.

Are you maybe a little past due to update your work log?

That truck is BA. What recenters are those?

Edit: martin beat me to it. Build thread.....

2" front springs and rear blocks is perfect with those tires for hauling. The stock springs ride like crap.
