Cummins/Allison/Rockwell/Planetaries/Peterbilt.....paint job completed

We need a VIDEO!

I actually had my 1080HD Cam with me on Friday, but no one to hold it. I guess I could try and take a vid from the driver's seat. Might be able to set it up stationary next week too. I do plan to get a video made next week, after I get new drag links built. 1.25 Sched 80 pipe wasn't even close to being strong enough for the longer drag link to the front axle. Don't know what I was thinking when I built them. Monday morning I'll be back at it, and will get some monster DOM tubing and re make them. I have a bunch of stuff to take pictures of and get posted up, like frame bracing, lines, brakes, interior, but am bad about not taking time to take pics during the work process. I'll get them posted up during the work week. Along with a vid.:thumb:

Everyone overlooks stuff when you get excited.

Shots of before and after of my frame bracing.

Another of the 1.25 sched 80 pipe vs. 2.25" DOM tube.

Last of the bung I had to weld into the oil pan so I had a place to return the engine oil from the air compressor.

this has been a cool build to watch. loved the walk around. I didn't quite "get" the steering before, but the walk around showed it. nicely done!

you plan on painting it all up pretty, or just running with it as is?

You bet. It will be yellow with white stripes on the cab. We painted the outer planetaries and brakes before we put the rims/tires on so that next summer when I paint the whole rig, I can just throw plastic over the tires/wheels and not have to take them back off.

Now the mods you have done to this bank-out makes you want to upgrade the other bank-out?

You made it sound like the other bank-out was only "decent."
Just how much different is the other bank-out to the one you just got done working on.

It's only "decent" because it's roughly 50 years old, no thats not a typo. It has a tiny cab, great visibility yes, but at 6' 4" tall, I get a little cramped after a few hours. The other issue is the Timken 409 axles under it. They have the small champagne cups and fatigue and split under the larger heavier loads of grain these newer combines can spit out. I've split on of the cups almost completely in half nearly losing the knuckle and tire/wheel off the rest of the axle. They are also not planetary axles with just a double reduction center section with around a 9.1:1 ratio. It'll go damn near 35-40mph on the road if the driver is brave enough. The last small issue is it's got a Deutz air cooled 6.6L diesel in it rated at 160HP. It's enough power when the ground is firm, but a little shy in the mud. It's a great little bank out wagon, just getting older and is a little on the small side.

So what is out there for big winches? Military surplus? Something in the 25K pulling range and hydraulic driven would be perfect. Would be handy to have a winch on the front of this thing.

PTO driven how so? A direct shaft drive from something like a Chelsea that is mounted on the PTO port, then transmitted with a driveshaft to the winch? Or does it use a hydro pump on the pto port, powering a hydro motor at the winch?

Just had to say I love that thing   it's like a monster truck big rig that was born on a farm :D :waytogo::waytogo:

Am I the only one that thinks we HAVE to see a video of this thing running over a car?

WINCHES: can be either way you described. the ones I have run are 40k-100k lbs. Either they run on a direct pto shaft *reversable or run through a hydrolic "wet kit" wet kit is just a simple pump and drive box with a directional control something im sure would be pretty basic for a guy with your experiance. Some times the direct shaft driven ones are air controlled sometimes its manual levers that you have to reach out the back sliding window.

I still dont know how to embed videos *not mine*
