Cwn Anwyn's 84 K5 rebuild

I guess I'll document the changes and work done on my Blazer, or Lack of Work done to it if I go by how long I've had this thing!

I've had this K5 since probably 94 or so. I got it right around when I joined the Army. PCS'd with it up to WA state where I blew up the 305 in it and replaced it with a decent 350. Then it sat for a few years while we lived in Japan. Here is a pic of it right after we got back and I had knocked off most of the moss and cleaned it up some.

I ended up putting a cheap 4 Wheel Parts Procomp lift kit on it. 4 inch springs in the front and blocks on the rear. Traded for some 36" Ground Hawgs and ran it like that for awhile. Then I discovered CK5!

Fast forward to its current state. I tossed on some B52s and have worn out a few 36" TSLs. It was my Daily driver like this for quite some time. But it hasn't seen a lot of trails and again it sat for awhile. Mainly because the 700R4 died in it again and life happened so I just didn't work on it. I let it sit for too long and now I get to fix everything that wasted away. :doah:

Swapped in the SM465/NP205 setup that I picked up from Icehouse and Big Pappa B.

While doing the trans swap I pulled the carpet so I could repair the gaping hole that I had cut in the floor for the clocked NP208. Thats when I found more of a mess to fix.

208 cutout:

The Montero suspension seat base I was using on the drivers side tore up the floor under it.

Then apparently something was spilled on my carpet on the passenger side and it ate into the floor the entire time I neglected the truck.

Plus I have lots of holes to fill from when I had the cable shifter set up on the 700R4 and whatever else was drilled in to the floor.

Lots of other spots that need fixed like my B Pillars since my top wasn't sealing very good.

Guess it is time to knock out the rock sliders now!

Here are some more tear down pics.

I initially planned on yanking the AC box from the firewall. But not being able to get to this one bolt led to me pulling out the inner fenders. Oh well, they were rusted through where they bolted to the firewall anyways!

I picked up a non AC heater box and planned on just tossing that on there.

But that wasn't going to work so I'm going to make part of the original box work.

Now I get to figure out battery tray mounts (dual batteries in the works) and trim the fenders. But I am definitely digging the easy access to headers and plugs now!:saweet:

On a positive note, I scored these off craigslist for 150 bucks for the pair!

And since somehow I picked up a Grand Cherokee steering shaft years ago when I thought I had a regular Cherokee shaft the whole time.

The splines on both ends were pretty small and didn't really fit my steering box or the column. So I did some more digging at the local Upullandpay. After looking at every Cherokee there I realized that the yard employees must have my garage bugged and pull every part I want to get before I get there. But with a little bit of research I stumbled across a 2002 Chevy Express that had a nice U-joint steering shaft.

This thing is like 19"s compressed and a little over 26"s extended (could have pulled it out a little more but that was pretty close to the end of it). It has the exact same size steering box splines and the column end was D shaped just like the old one. Plus I didn't have to heat it any to get plastic retainers to loosen like some had to do on the Cherokee shaft.

Getting quite a bit of progress there. I'm riding in a Craigslist suspension seat too. Although I only scored 1 seat.

Then I cleaned up my Throttle body with new seals, spacer, salad bowl and adjustable regulator and gauge.

I really do like is how easy it is to get to things with out the inner fenders! I should have pulled those off a long time ago. But we will see how I like it without them when its actually on the road.:pimp1:

I was wondering if you ever got that trans/t-case in...or more importantly, out of your Subaru :hack:

:haha: Yep, got it cleaned up, new gaskets and rtv and installed. The 465/205 in the first pic on post #2 is the one from Icehouse. That 465 and adapter went down to New Mexico. The second pic in that post is of the 465 and adapter that I picked up from you and were in the back of the Subaru! :pimp: Took me a bit to get it cleaned up and the hydro bell swapped over. But it went in pretty smoothly. It was a little easier than trying to get it out of the trunk of the WRX! :doah:

Now to just get drive shaft sorted out and finish messing around with this TBI stuff and I might be able to drive it soon. Its been yard art far too long. I think my neighbor has been trying to plant some gnomes around it.
