its getting time to buy new steering parts, my stock stuff is about shot. only steering problems i currently have is fixable by an alignment, but like i say its wore out and im going to replace it.

so i guess what im looking for is, what advantages/disadvantages are their from going with a crossover steering set up, is it worth the extra cash.

the same thing with the high steer kit, do i need it, do i want it, what advantages and disadvantages?

thanks
mike

Crossover steering is my favorite mod, now that I got it, I can't believe I lived without it for so long. Turning radius improved, off road steering vastly improved, would recommend it to anyone with the stock steering. Whether it's worth it on 1/2 ton gear or not I guess only you can answer, I didn't do it until I had a d60. I didn't do high steer, if I ever bust my tie rod then I'll convert to it

i have thought about doing the 60 swap, but i really like my newly finnished rims:laugh:. i got rid of my 8 lug cyclones with my 94 ram, never thought i would need them for this, but anything is possible in the future.

I have crossover, but if I went high steer I would want an aftermarket knuckle to handle the extra abuse. This is on a D60, so the money is already going into something super strong.

High steer would be really nice, as I've already wacked my tierod and ram a few times. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a d44, unless you come across one already done etc.

I like it. People that drive my blazer are really surprised at how nice it steers.

It is pricy though, but I don't plan on running a 60 ever. If I did I would wait on it. And just fix what's there.

Steering is one of the best mods you can do. Do not hesitate to do at least crossover

the more i think about things i dont see myself doing a 60 swap anytime soon, so at this point lets say im going to keep the 44 for ever.

Axle doesn't matter. Steering is by far the best mod yoh can make on an off road rig. If you are worried about the tie rid with high steer just get some 1.5 .250 wall and sleeve it with 1.75 .120 wall. Indestructo

no matter what i do i need a new tie rod mying only has an adjustable end on one side, and its the other end that is slopy.

Get a new tie rod, as that's gonna be needed either way, and then slowly start piecing together a kit (if you wanna save some) from people selling stuff.

so where does this bolt to? the hub i have has a flat top and no holes.

as far as i know its a stock 76 d44

Flat top gets milled and drilled and you get a steering arm that bolts to top of knuckle. Or you buy a Reid knuckle or one somebody has done already

Drag link now goes from that steering arm to pitman arm, on the 2wd box your going to need to install.

so is it cheaper to just get the new knuckle or have it milled and drilled if i can find someone?

if i get the reid knuckle, do i do both, or is just right side good enuff?

thanks

Only need the pass side. You just need to make sure which side of the knuckle the tie rod ends go in.

Mine mounts on top, but IIRC dana 44s mount on the bottom... Because the taper is one way or the other for the tie rod end.

Here you can see mine mounts on the top side.

mine mounts to the top too.

what is an IIRC?

"If I remember correctly" (well that's what ive always thought it meant lol)

But yah if yours mounts on the top, just be sure to find a passenger knuckle that mounts on top. Or worst case you end up getting two matching knuckles, and while your swapping you can get new balljoints and check out all the other fun things behind your wheels lol.

Isnt ck5 just the best thing ever on your wallet :D

i see this kit eliminates the sway bar. is this noticeable, im thinking about taking it out now, do i really need it
