Dabba's First Floor Resto... (Ugh, trying again, Need input! 10/21/12....)

Cuts are looking cleaner. I believe 496 said it best double check the passenger side for looks and fitment. Just little at a time. When all else fails check out a buddies rig.

I did i did! which confuses me because i see the trough in yours, but in mine apparently Im going to cut it.. I dont get that. Which is why i need input! Wheres that ryoken? >.>

Crap that what I was worried about!

You really nead to have a good look at the passengers side.

Is it the plastic kick panel you cant get off?

first, you should flatten that section better... a dolley, piece of thick flat stock, 2 x 4, something behind it, and repeatedly hit it with a hammer face till it's flat...

so... it certainly looks likr that panel isn't right... the trough end being to far away from the depression lines in the floor, correct?

also... you have got be kidding me about the passenger side..... just rip the plastic panel up thru the screw heads... if your overly concerned about the panel, drill the screw heads off...

the trough looks a little wide on that patch.... i don't know what max's pic looks like, but you may have to narrow that trough up... or actually move it over.. is that correct?

I think you want a little of that L bend up so that it fits against the kick panel (not the plastic trim, the steel) that way you can plug weld it to the side. That would put the indentation in line with the other one.

Really hard to give advice without actually being there. Give a day or so and let Ryoken (Paul I think) chime in. See what he thinks.

Nevermind, looks like he was typing while I was.

And to flatten it out better, sandwich it between a couple 2x4s, hit the 2x4 with a hammer.

Here is a rusted out one, but you can see were the trough begins and where it should be.

yup, as i thought, it looks a bit tighter, narrower.....

Yeah it does, Damn. Well, I'm still not sure how to go about this now. Ill hammer the flange flat but... Sure the trough is thinner but at looking at mine, the panel is so far off the wall I'm going to need to cut the trough out to line **** up... so the panel is ****ed. How would you goes do it? Anyone wanna measure their pickup? The indentation where my finger is.. From the left (outside) of that to the wall? I believe i got around 5 3/8ths for mine. Damn, can never be easy.

How would you guys approach the panel being ****ed up? Cut, line **** up then worry later?

ok, first thing I would do is get an exact measurement of how far the indentation at top is from the correct position... looks like, maybe, 1.5" or so?

this is the easiest way i can think for someone with limited tools...

in the pic, i would cut where the red lines are.... cutting out the trough, leaving say, a 3/4" lip on the right for future plug welds....

shortening up the upper portion the appropriate amount and bend down the flange on the orange line...

where the trough is getting shifted over, keep in mind, you wouldn't be removing the full 1.5", but allowing for the overlap plugweld flange... so, say, cutting out a 3/4 strip of the remaining floor... then shift the trough over, edge weld along the top edge, and plug weld down your new flange to the right of the trough..

make sense?

oh, and, I would probably do the red cutting, bend the front flange, then fit it all up leaving out your now removed trough.. once you fit the main panel, figure out your final cut to the right for shifting the trough over... pull the panel, make the final cut, grind and drill everything, weld the main patch in, then finish up by welding the trough in....

Okay so let me get this straight. Cut the trough out enough so the indentations in the floor line up, and make sure everything up top lines up, the plate to the wall, etc. Put the trough aside, line everthing up and get ready to weld.. Then Bring the trough back in and line it up with the rocker and such.. Make sure everything is tight then weld the panel to the floor, and then the trough to the panel. Right?

yes... last thing cut should be the small strip to the right of the trough once you locate the now cut up patch in for a final fit. you can then eyeball where the trough needs to be moved over to and how much of a little strip needs to be removed....

I think it's come time to admit defeat if i want to be able to use the truck in the winter. (And i do) I'm thinking about paying someone to do the final cuts on the peice I have and the welding. I simply don't have the time anymore nor the drive to finish this before snow hits the ground. Maybe if it were summer and i didnt have finals to worry about, but as it is, school is going to take me up just before xmas and i dont want to be working on this through the new year even if it didnt snow. Gonna be looking for people monday. I hope someone around here stil does sheet metal work >.>
