Cluster is dakota digital vhx.

Never had this issue before, but this started a few months ago, and still does it with the new battery. It functions fine otherwise.

What causes or would cause the read out to look like this? I'm no good at electrical, hopefully something I fix and or even understand how to.

Maybe cooking in the sun is frying the brain behind the dash?

How comfortable are you with disassembling electronic stuff? If it hasn’t been accidentally hit and damaged the screen, then it may simply be a bad or dirty connection to the LCD screen. There should be some sort of ribbon cable that connects ‘the brains’ to the LCD screen. Reseating it may be all that it takes, but while you’re in there clean off the connections on the cable (if possible) using a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

I'll check tomorrow morning when it's a bit cooler or maybe later tonight.

I'll give it a go.

I'll pull the dash off later and take a million pictures. I think another member took care of your membership. thanks should be directed @Wes Harden
:doah:
Really, or am I part of an inside joke?
Well, whoever then …

And pics would be nice. Couldn’t find any info of one being disassembled so not sure what it looks like inside. Just an educated guess.

Rest assured I post many posts along with pictures. Truck is just too hot to go get in right now.

I'll update accordingly.

While you wait, maybe unplug battery for a while and let the capacitors drain down. Dunno, could always kick a tire too.

Already did that... and I kicked all 4 tires. Still weird readout. The sun bakes it rising, then bakes it again setting. Sucks no room in the garage

None. You’ll have to pull the dash apart to get inside the gauge itself to the circuit board and LCD display. I’m guessing there’s a ribbon cable that goes from a microcontroller to the LCD display. Like I said, how comfortable are you with disassembling electronic stuff? :D

Not at all... if that's the only course for action, then I'd soon enough just let it ride as is.

Actually, wait. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the one (or is it three?) in the upper left that says display.

Also the other end of the cable that plugs into the dash. I thought that box just sent the signals to the dash and the brains were in the cluster itself.

I'm already dripping in sweat.

This cable connector looks cracked hard to see in the pictures

There’s a little tab under the rubber sleeve you need to push on in order to pull the cable out. See it on the left side of the one going into the dash?

I tried and still nothing, it's solid in there. You can't pull the plug out from the back of the gauges it seems. Or it locks somehow.

I'm already dripping in sweat, I'll try again tomorrow morning.
What a weenie. :haha:

I think either the heat has cracked or it was cracked by the ding dongs who installed it a few years ago
