Why are you worrying about the network cable? The problem is right inside the gauge, right at the LCD. Whenever I see this problem, it's bad contact with the rubber conductive strips. They are pressed between the display and the circuit board behind it. If there's a way to increase the force on that, it should wake up the dead segments.
This is just an example, I have no idea what pitch you need. I'm not recommending to buy anything until you're able to get into the gauge and see what's going on.
