Dana 44 - How to beef up ???

[ QUOTE ]
dude, you waste sooooo much bandwidth around here. I mean, there is a search button. Steve keeps old info.

99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of your 8,000+ posts have been covered extensively. In fact, if you *ever* post about 33" tires on a stock Blazer i don't know what I'd do....

[/ QUOTE ] What's up with the finger pointing and sniveling ???? /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I can think of someone else who post as much as I do, but y'all ain't jumping his a$$ about it. No I'm not going to name them becouse I don't feel finger pointing is right. I'm not here too win a popularty contest, but I don't care for certin people pointing fingers. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Because I'm smart and keep my poser butt in Non4x4 and don't venture into the big boys section......... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Seriously Paul, this topic has been covered more than my ex-wife at a Navy port. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif In fact, you rarely see a topic that has not been covered before these days. It's very simple, you have a question, run a search for a few minutes and see what pops up. But don't limit yourself to just "Dana 44 and 36," open you pattern up to "Dana 44." You will find what you are looking for very easily. I know Shaggy has gone into depth on his Dana 44 experiences on several occasions........

I'm not certain people. the problem is that you are looking for BACKGROUND information and OPINIONS. If you want to (finally) do your 3/4 ton swap or what ever you have planned and post something like:

My D44 hubs are not going on right, what am i doing wrong?

or:

I can't seem to get the full circle CTM clips in on my D44 Warn shafts, any tips?

there is a BIG differnce between those two (which i would post up and offer solutions) to asking what people's opinions are on Ground Hawgs (which also has been covered to death) or on a D44 build (which Shaggy has painstakingly covered on numerous boards, numerous times.

that it all.

p.s.

Bubba is the one you are alluding to, and he is the offical "Poser Stock" of CK5.com, he runs top secert tests. so is contributions are much needed. plus i can't bag on any other "Sand people" cuz there aren't any /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but if i wanted info on a TTB swap, i'd be PM'ing Bubba like Jerry Lewis on his way to a Liquor plant

why don't you stop asking so many questions and go wheel your sh!t.

[/ QUOTE ] Becouse I'm still building it, and I don't trust it to handle what I want too do at this point. So I ask questions about things I'm not sure of. There is more knowledge and experience on this site then anywhere else on the web that I know of. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You need an Arb'd full 35 splined Dana 60. Duh. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Or at the very least to beef it up, I would have my Dana 44 bored out at least .030" over. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Ok, I am not going to point fingers or bash here. Here is what I have decided to do and some stuff I have learned about running 1/2 ton gear.

My setup is going to be this.

10bolt front with stock axleshafts, premium joints (warn or new spicer), lockright locker, 4.56 gears, Warn Premiums, and 37-38" tires.

A trick I have was told about was to spot weld the caps of the ujoint to the axleshaft ears to keep them from walking out and breaking axles. I was told by Tim (4x4 Iron) that this simple thing made his front axleshafts live twice as long.

I currently have the lockright installed with the 4.56's and 35" tires. I haven't wheeled it hard yet though. I know that I am going to break front axles. I know this so I have already invested in 2 full spare sets of front axleshafts.

From talking with Tim at 4x4 Iron and watching and talking with Marv Springer and Rob I know I can make the 1/2 ton gear work pretty well and survive for awhile. I just have to be ready replace front axleshafts and such. It is inevitable with 35+" tires on 1/2 ton gear, especially with a locker in the front.

A limited slip should be more forgiving then a locker also which should help you with longevity.

Harley

P.S. If you run Warn Premium hubs with a limited slip you can run the hub fuses for another level of possible protection against breakage. I can't use them because of the front locker.

Alright, First of all, I really don't want to choose sides, so I'm not, but this whole Search, search, search thing is kind of annoying!!!!

"If a guy met you on the street and said, nice truck! What kind of lockers you suggest running? I've still got stock axles!"

Would you turn to him and laugh in his face spit on his shoe and tell him to search the web! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I don't care if the dude has more posts than Wes, it's still CK5 and we're all here to learn and wheel! Some of us like D44 and some of us worship D60s! Personally I think it's quite obvious what his choice to run is, get over it! I don't know if ya'll notice this, but it takes more bandwidth for ya'll to sit here and cry and complain about his question then it does to just answer his question! He stayed on topic, why can't ya'll! Bash him on the OT page, but just get to the point out here! If I was new around here and wondered into this post, I sure wouldn't want to ask a question around here! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

[/ QUOTE ] So what too do if you don't have one, or can't find one you can afford ??? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

also I have been thinking about running alloy inner axleshafts, premium joints (warn or spicer) and stock outer axleshafts. This would probably cause the outer shaft to break before the joint, inner shaft, or my locker. I think replacing an outer that is busted would be easier then an inner that you would have to fish out and replace.

Also I have thought about doing this because if I am running alloy axles all the way threw I would make the locker or the gears the weak point in the axle. I don't want those to be the weak points. Shafts are cheaper and easier. I also carry a spare spindle, and wheel bearings incase an outer axle destroys them.

I would not bother building up a 10 bolt if you are planning to run tires over 33" (Maby 35 if you are easy on it)
It just aint worth it. It costs too much. They were never designed to take the stresses of large tires.
Just go with a 14 bolt.
The D 44 aint much stronger if any, than the 10 bolt either. but it does have the Dana Name if it makes you feel better.
Better to save your mony and look around for a D60 if you are going to run big tires in my opinion.

And last but not least since you should be filling my PayPal with green stuff too since I wasted valuable web wheeling time looking this crap up for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTE: I've searched for hours and hours without being able too find what I need. So I ask questions and for opinions. When some of y'all jump my a$$ saying too search, or "you're waisting bandwith" it's very frustrating. If it's covered already, please include a link to the thread(s), couse I'm having a problem finding the information I need. Thank you.

My broders are blue & it says ck5 at the top of the page, but I think I'm on the PBB. Why the need to bash so badly?
