dana 60 "bounce" at freeway speeds???

Ok, if you have not done this yet, we need to go back to basics. Get someone to follow you, preferably with two people in the chase car.
Get it to the bounce speed, and let them come alongside and see what it actually happening.
It probably would help if you watched while they drove too.

Sometimes actually seeing the problem will give you a clue. It might not be the wheel you think, even though is seems it has to be.

If its for sure that wheel, then you need to do the wheel bearings. I suggest that if you do not find anything wrong with them, pull the other side and swap as much stuff as you can left to right.
Unless the antibiotic is still dumbing me down, you should be able to swap the hub, drum or disk, wheel and tire.

If the problem moves, then it is some part of what you swapped. If not, then its in the suspension, or the spindle is loose.........

That is a good idea. Maybe i will con mike into helping me with this tommorow.

It's worked before...

I fixed my wobble, on the rocks... :D
So, we still on fer tomoro?

And heck yes. lets wheel up a storm

My truck don't go 65mph... :haha:

Speakin' a which, I gotta go work on that ****er.

Thats OK, you will just need to add one more person.

You need you in the driver's seat of your truck, one person in the back to watch for the bounce, plus on other person besides Chris in his truck to video it for here as Chris pushes your truck down the highway at 65.........

I mean, what could go wrong????:dunno:

Seriously though, you can drive down the road and park and watch as he drives by.
Not as good as pacing him, but better than sitting in the truck with him saying " I think its coming from over there...."

Oh man you had me goin.

I think if i fashion one of those poles off the front of my rig like the moose buggys do and strap mike to it then he can look right at the axle/tires and see what is happening.

Subura station wagons work well for the 60 mph head hanging out the back to figure out a wobble thing, not that I would do that............very often . You can get low in them wagons and with the back seat down most of me is in the car:whistle:

Hey, its better than tieing yourself up under a vehicle and letting a friend drive around a parking lot to find a rattle.....Twice!
First time I was facing the wrong way, and had to turn around and face the back.

Turned out to be a rear shock. I didn't see anything all that dangerous about it. I had lots of ground clearance under the Jeep, and I was real good with knots and lines.
Made me a comfortable cradle and just rode around looking.

Of course, it was many years later when I read about the guy who owned a big diesel dump truck and had a noise problem.
He got up under it and had a friend drive him around a parking lot.

The engine made a lot of noise, so the friend could not hear anything the guy might say.
He drove around a few minutes, stopped and switched off the engine and asked if that was enough.
Guy did not answer.
He climbed down to see what was going on, and found him wrapped very tightly around the driveshaft.........

I tried to find out, but never did get an answer as to whether or not they found out what the noise was......

The original noise that is. I'm pretty sure I know what the crunching squishing noise was.....

I know you tried 2 different sets but I still think it's the tires.

You tried BBs and the problem changed, first clue right there.

The 33s I had before I lifted and went to 35s were junk. Plenty of tread left just old and dry rotted. Couldn't get them balanced worth a damn. BBs, conventional weights, brand new wheels... nothing worked. I got it tolerable, but at 60-65 and up they would just rattle and shake the whole truck. I remember the damn doors shaking dadadadadadadadadada. I don't miss that one bit. Some days were better than others too but it was always there.

New tires fixed it.

I have ruined more than one creeper trying to do this

But I have never tied myself onto the underside of a rig.

Good grief even I think thats crazy

Find some stock 8 luggers with known good tires and put em on see if it still does it

Any luck with it this weekend?

i switched shocks around to no avail.

I did notice when i was on the freeway that you can BARELY tell that it is actually wobbling back and forth.

So it is the same motion as a death wobble, but only goes maybe a half inch either way.

im gonna try and tighten up my preload adjusters and try that. If that doesnt work im gonna do like you guys said and switch hubs side to side.

The BB's sound AWESOME, while Chris is rolling around the trail... :haha:

Prolly my favorite part of the last wheeling trip. :thumb:

Update. Pulled it all apart. Pass side inner bearing was shot
Rest looked awesome. Got a new pass inner bearing and race, cleaned and repacked the rest and switched rotors side to side. I put 36s back on and it srill does it. Grantes with the 36s it is only a slight vibration type feeling but it is still there. Im at my whits end here

So I know you went thru the top king pin, did you check the bottom ones?

No. I guess that should be my next pull apart. I figured they were Good still since there is No slop, but I will have to see. Can I just pull the bottom cap thing off and get a good idea how they are?

i have seen lower bearings in the knuckle / kingpin be tight but SHOT TO HELL .

if you dont know condition or havent checked in years buy parts and plan on reman of lowers.

I don't know since I never rebuilt those, I am sure someone will chime in, but I have a feeling it's 99% bad and the source of you problem.
:dunno:
