Dana 60

I understand completely - so much information we’ve all gathered over the years it’s very easy to get our wires crossed.

I can’t recall when Dana dropped the 16-spline axles in favor for the 30-spline - I thought it was 1969 but they could have phased the change in at different times for different applications?
This is why my post said "some " .
I don't know which ones had which spline count, but I knew that the coarse ones exist. Just wanted to give a recommendation to research.
Thanks for adding info.

I know early 70's ford D60's are coarse spline, want to say 17. I put a trash lock in one for a customer 30 years ago. The 3rd member came with 30? spline side gears, tried to find axles at Tri county gear and off road, (4 wheel wrecking yard) ended up matching the side gears to our axles.
Took that kid about 18 months to split the carrier in half :doah:

They should’ve been 16-spline for older Dana 60 stuff.

I know what ya mean about getting a chunk with the wrong side gear spline count and having to find matching parts.

I actually bought an older Dana 60 P/L that was 16-spline just to get the case half’s for my truck because I got some spare Dana 80 P/L internals that are 35-spline and hold more clutches as a nice upgrade.
Gotta love them Dana/Spicer engineers making the P/L internals compatible between the 60, 70 & 80 diffs.
