Dare I say it...Another 72 K5 build! The Bubba build - getting back into it

Have a safe trip back. Been great following this over the summer. Major progress with the new power plant.

Well, it was a good summer messing with the truck. But, it's now over and the blazer is on jack stands and I'm about to be on a plane back to Germany.

Even though I didn't get any good pictures of it this summer and it sucks to put it in storage again, hopefully I'll be starting a new thread soon aus Deutschland! We'll see what kind of (im)practical vehicle I pick up :D

I am glad that you proved me wrong and were able to not only get a major upgrade completed (BBC install) but actually spend some time enjoying it as well..... :waytogo: The "driving" is what keeps the love affair with these early trucks alive....

In the grand scheme of things, cagework is pretty simple. A few of us have already pulled that off and can probably help you through it when the time comes.

I can't believe it's been 3 months since I put it away already....

Well, as most of you know the unnecessary German build fell through. I'm working harder to get this photography business going and thought something practical :eek1: would be better for now. I opted for a 2002 audi allroad. It's loaded with leather/nav/diesel and a 6 speed. I get 40+mpg out of it, so it's great for road trips while we're here. I'll be getting any wrenching angst out on the wrx, which we plan to keep anyways. Nice thing about the a6 is that our big goofy dog (other new addition) fits in it, so that's good.

Otherwise, life is pretty much back to normal with Ashley home, so now we're just on cruise control until we can get ourselves back to the US and build more on this blazer!

Hopefully I can get into the BX before christmas and actually start selling some pictures here soon...

Glad to hear things are getting back to normal for you two.

Oh, and that's a huge dog!

Here Mike, ya happy now?!!!:haha::haha::haha:

I can't believe this has been dead since 2013!

Since I still don't have actual possession of the truck at this point, we'll just make a little list of crap that needs finished/done/re-done.

Fix trans/case issue, whatever that might be
Doors - apparently the nut the striker threads into on the drivers side broke off and fell down into the B pillar. So that needs opened and fixed. Also the new from LMC interior door latch mech is weird and the handle won't stay on, so that needs fixed.
Cage! Damn BB is trying to kill everything
- while doing the cage, the rear floor is getting done (finally)
EFI - That big carb is a pain, and I'd like at least a hint of economy out of this pig.
Fuel tank - that plastic turd has to go
I need to beef up the frame. Problem is, it's tweaked from previous owners and I'm sure the new motor too. If I go through the trouble of taking the body off again, I think I may end up making a new frame for it out of box tubing. If I go through all that, do I want to link it? Freakin might as wells!!!! Obviously this is a down the road idea. I think. Hell, I just want to get the truck down here.
Front bumper needs either some adjusting or redone. I'll figure that out later.
Stereo. Has nothing at the moment, and that's unacceptable.
Winch
Front locker

I think that's about it (as far as crap that needs done). I'm sure there's a whole list of other stuff to get it where I ultimately want it.

Lol, you "might" not be as ghey as once thought earlier today. :D :haha:

Nice to see this thing is being brought back from the dead. :thumb:

Figuring the last link worked out so well and got us here....

I'll leave another one to get us there. :pimp:

If you are seeking opinions.... :)

I don't know how truly bad your current frame is, but if it's bent and twisted you might be better off just starting with a clean factory frame (they aren't impossible to find) I paid $500 for a clean CA one a long time ago.

You can do a lot of building on that new frame...add your beefing plates, crossmembers, etc to the new frame. Plumb it with larger fuel lines (and a return line for EFI) and any other bracketry you need for rollcage tie-ins.

Get the whole thing painted, then transfer the drivetrain, body and suspension over.....throw the old frame in the trash.

I wouldn't do a multi-link suspension. You'll be in "Jackstand Purgatory" for years.... It's a lot of work, and money. BTDT. Throw a good quality traction bar out back if you are worried about axle wrap.

Rust sucks. No real advice to save you time. Just get ALL of it. Do large sections even if it's scary at first. A hundred tiny patches on the floor / jambs / hinges will be a waste of time and the final result will be poor.

That's a good point on the frame. I might even be able to find one locally down here.

As for rust, it's 99% gone now, I just want to replace that rear floor that the po "fixed", and welded the old cage to. Some cleanup of the inner bedsides and I'll be good in the rust department.
