Did someone say back from the dead?

Had to replace the inside door releases today. The passenger side blew up last week and was rattling like crazy.

Also found that the passenger side shackle bolt has rubbed a hole through the header:angry1: I need to weld that up, but need to figure out how to keep it from happening again before I bother. I can't bend it inboard any more as it's already really close to the driveshaft... At the moment all I'm coming up with is longer shackles, but then I have to correct the caster again. Also, I'm already running 6" shackles up front... Should I even go longer? I'm pissed and tired of "fixing" the same stuff over and over.

You can't be pissed because thats what you signed up for by super modifing a 1st Gen:whistle:. I'll get a picture later today of what I ended up doing to fix mine.

Guess I'm way late on this thread

Sorry I never got back you anyone on here...been busy, then the forums went down. Dean, I really do need to get my own trailer. It's going to be something I just watch the classifieds for, then probably just end up having something just right made. Though I hope not, it sounds expensive.

SBD, you're not wrong

Glenn, thanks dude! It didn't care one bit that thing was back there... I had the bed full of tires/stuff, blazer, trailer and the blazer was full of furniture and a spare set of wheels for the jeep. I had to downshift on one hill the whole trip home running 70mph and got 13mpg. I love this truck!

So I've actually found a few minutes to start screwing around with this thing so far. First thing I found was that it definitely doesn't fit in the garage on the swampers. So that needs sorted out. I need new springs (more on that later), so I'm actually considering taking out some of the lift, and using the H2's I'm going to buy from Greg, maybe drop from the 39.5's to something around 37... Not sure yet though. I've also toyed with bumping the winch(es) higher on the to-do list to suck the suspension down, enter garage and release. Option 3 is hurrying up the onboard air, though that sounds miserable to do on a regular basis.

Next on the list, my horrible vibration. Yeah, so it appears the last time the transfer case was out (when the BBC ate the clutch in 2 weeks), somebody *cough cough* didn't locktite the driveshaft bolts. Lost two, one was stuck in the driveline brake rotor, and the last one was holding it on. I honestly can't believe it was able to put itself (in rear wheel drive) onto the trailer. That's when I noticed it.

So I already called Jesse at HAD and ordered a new driveline brake, new output flange. Then I called Chris at ORD and got a new billet bearing retainer, 205 rebuild kit and adapter seal kit. That was an expensive f***up!

So I've known since not long after the big block went in that the truck was sitting a bit low on the passenger rear. I knew that spring didn't quite have as much arch as the other side. What I didn't notice until I was under it the other night, was that my anti-wrap bar was bent like crazy!

20150930_172145_zpsfvpjluh8.jpg

That was flat before. Turns out a not-so-great design and 1/8" wall square tube can't hold up to big block power... So my question for you guys is, should I ditch the single bar (ORD sells one just like it, so it can't be that bad of a design) and go with something like Kert's wraptor, or should I just make a new bar out of appropriately thick steel with enough gusseting to hold up? I'll sort that out at the same time I swap springs. My plan is to go with customs from ORD. I love the idea of coilovers, but it's just too much time/money for this particular truck IMO. I just need to decide how tall I want it to be.

Also, we're getting settled in a bit more down here. Still have some stuff to put away, mostly in the garage. But we did get this done today!

I think it adds a touch of class to this place!

Hopefully I'll have some more time to spend on here, and actually start making some progress on the truck now.

Looking good man!
I'm seriously considering custom springs from them as well. I have the tough country soft ride springs but it still seems like a dump truck compared to newer trucks to me. Looking for more comfort in my old age.

Yeah, mine has some old tough country springs out back, and superlift's that are from a straight axle yota up front... It rides like crap, plus has the whole ghetto lean thing going on now. Add it to the list!

Wow that is bent!
I was looking at the pic thinking were is it bent? And why did he build it like that?
Then I seen that the bottom tube is suppose to be straight! Lol! Gotta love a Big Block and a crazy owner!

Couple quick points

37-38 is about the max tire size for any sort of practical street use. Just make sure whatever you step down to WILL fit in the garage. Otherwise the whole exercise is a waste of effort!

That wrap bar is a great example of FEA in real life. The bend happened right where the reinforcement bar ended. That also where the STRENGTH of the part ended. Rebuild it with BOTH bars running full-length and run a thin (dimpled with speed holes if you want!) plate between them. That creates an I-beam structure that becomes insanely strong. The inside plate prevents the outer tubes from deforming and ultimately bending

I need one of those fancy dimple dies!

Is a single bar ok, or did that cause the spring to get tweaked too?
