Decision Time! My humble build! "Flexed" it, 5/21/09!

So, would the one on the back of my 350 work for you? If so, when do you plan on swapping? I can save it. I can always get one at the parts store in town. Any idea on cost? Iguess that's easy enough for me to find out. I figure if you're giving me the clutch pedal assembly, I can give you the flex plate! At least it sounds fair to me. Talk to you later! I'm off to removing my automatic now, and all the things that go with it. BTW, what helps support the 465/205? The 700/241 had that bara that went from the t-case to the bell housing. Is there something similar for the manual set-up?

i have a few flex plates. and when the member from nyc comes and gets my 465/205/hydro stuff then i will be pulling it. and i think he needs the old style flywheel also.

and 465/205 didnt realy run much for braces i have seen.

Tranny is out...again!!

Today I got the tranny, and most things auto, out of the Blazer. No more linkage, cooling lines, struts to engine mounts. All that is left is the cooler and shifter. Maybe tomorrow.

Now I'm at a standstill as far as the Blazer goes. Next I have to take the 465 and 205 off the back of my big block. This is the heavy stuff. Now I need to be even more careful of my back and neck. Working bent over and all. I've never done this before. I have read my Haynes and Chiltons, so I'm a little prepared. Can't wait!

Here's today's progress. There's one for BlazenOffRoad too. I had to jack the truck up to get the tranny out from under it. His bumper held up great, not a twitch or tweak from it.

I got lots of parts building up if anyone wants to change over to auto! When I get it all together, I will post it in the classifieds!!

Sweetk30, can't wait to meet up with you! Do you have everything you need for your 400/205 swap? If you can think of anything I might have let me know!

Talk to you later, now I gotta go get the tranny fluid out of my hair!

pulling from a 88k30 thats getting a 4l80-e/241 adaptor/203 rangebox/ord doubler kit/205 tcase and a few more goodys.

Sounds like a play toy. I'm not going quite so extreme...YET! I just want something reliable and a little unbreakable. A good daily driver that is a little more capable than stock! Right now, I just want to drive my truck. ANy luck on the pedals yet? Need a hand scrounging? I'm up for a little road trip!

Figured I would give you all a break from the pics. All I did today was vacuum the metal shavings from drilling out the spot welds. Also got alot of the old mud and carpet underlayment.

I also pondered all the wiring and switches I need to finagle to get the old brake pedal out and the new clutch/brake assembly in. There is alot of stuff in my way. I don't want to start removing stuff untill I have the new pedal braket in hand. I don't want to forget where it all goes. :eek1:

That's all for now, later!!

I do appreciate it man, I know how tough it is to get into the piles of stuff. I'm trying to keep track of the stuff I take out, but I'm rapidly running out of shelf space in the lean-to of my wife's horse barn. All my storage is on the side porch and the lean-to. There is barely a path running through it.

Tomorrow, I think, I will tackle taking apart the 465/205 combo to make it managable for me. It is all still attached to the big block. Can't wait to see how that goes!

Have a good night Brett!

A little more progress.

Got the 465 and 205 off my old motor today. Rigged up my 4-wheeler's winch to a snatch block hung from the rafter of the lean-to. Had just enough power to lift the big block with all the drivetrain attached. I just removed one piece at a time. First time to take apart a manual trans and clutch assembly. I know I need a new disc, but I think I can have the pressure plate resurfaced. Everything else appears to be in decent, usable condition.

Here's some pics.

just get a clutch kit with pressure plate and disk and throwout bearing with install tool. and yes flywheels can be cut if good and in spec. but dont forget 454 takes its own flywheel.

hay man what 350 did you have ? 1 peice rear or 2 peice rear?

that guy is coming up this weekend for my 4speed stuff. and he needs a old 2 peice flywheel. so i will have that 1 peice flywheel for ya.

A one piece it is, 1989. Who's the CK5er that's coming out. I wouldn't mind meeting another one. Any particular day or time. I'm always up for a road trip. Do you need the flex plate from my 350? I could bring that down there too!

... ive also herd with the sector shaft swap you get complimentary leaks lol

This was true for me when I went to crossover. I ended up buying the pitman arm rebuild kit. Replaced the lower seals and all is good. It comes with two seals and two washers.

I played hell trying to get the upper seal out. Spent 2 hours trying to get the top seal out. I finally went and bought one of these seal pullers from Autozone. Pulled the seal out in 10 seconds. It was worth $10.00

"New flywheel"

Thanks to the generosity of Sweetk30,I now have a flywheel for my manual conversion. I would install it today, but it is frikkin' snowing! I just don't want to sit out there, even if it would only take a minute or two. Hopefully, I will have a clutch kit by the end of the week. I need to save a few more pennies though.:o

I did list my auto, and all things for a complete (almost) auto swap, in the classifieds. The sale of those parts will help me gather the rest of what I need to be able to drive the Blazer this summer.

Again, my thanks to Sweetk30, and his generous gift. He made progress possible!!!:bow::bow:

EDIT: Did it anyway!!:D

My wife is awesome!

I've been at a little bit of a stand still. No money, so I thought, and nothing left to do but wait. I need a clutch kit, cross-over steering, shocks, brake lines, gear oil, just to drive it, not to mention registration fees and insurance. (GAS). :doah:

So I'm out in the driveway cutting the shifter hole in the hump, and Nik (my wife) asks about how much I need to drive it so I can go to Bloomsburg. This is normally a "loaded" question, she does not like the amount of money I "waste" on my truck. THEN, she suggests that I just go ahead and buy what I need so I can get it running.:saweet::woot::saweet: She doesn't even want me to go cheap. I would like to go with a ''good" shock, maybe Bilstein 5150's? The ORD crossover and steering brace, and the Luk Pro Gold clutch.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on my decisions? Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, she is concidering a membership here to keep an eye on me.

God I love her:blush::bow:, I never would have expected this kind of support from her. Support yes, but not the spend more money kind.

New Stuff!

My wife suggested that I buy what I need to get the truck on the road in time for Bloomsburg!

Today I picked up most of the stuff I needed for my rear disc conversion, and clutch kit. I also put in an order to ORD. Steve, and a few guys from CK5 got me on track with shocks. Went with Bilstein 5125's and the Ford shock towers as per Steve! Also on the way is their crossover steering and steering brace, not to mention their braided lines for the front and rear discs.

I got an Exide marine starting battery with 1000cca's, 5gal. of gear oil, and a case of BrakeKleen.

I love new stuff!!

It's snowing and 35 out right now, but tomorrow will be 50's and sunny. I think I will do the brake conversion after work. I also will replace the axle seals while I'm at it. A good buddy of mine has a press I can use for the studs. It's a whole lot easier than using a drift. I effed up the ones on my 60 discs that way. Live and learn.

Did I mention I love new stuff. It's great to have a wife that "understands and supports" the hobbies!!

New Stuff!

Made a little progress today!

I'll keep it simple. I got the clutch and bell housing bolted up today. A mechanic friend in town let me borrow an old input shaft to install the pilot bushing. It also held the disc in place much better than the plastic tool that came with the clutch kit. It would've been off about 1/8 inch if I didn't have the shaft. Tomorrow will be tranny and crossmember. The crossmember will have to be relocated and the frame redrilled.

Thanks to SweetK30, clutch and brake pedal assembly are soon to be installed. His help has been invaluable! The Capt. will be on the way Sat. morning.:D

Nothing too exciting, but here's what I got done today!
