Decisions decisions - Getting closer

That shirt is fantastic!

We're still waiting for 100% confirmation that Alabama is the place (I don't want to order a bigass diesel truck and find out we're going back to Hawaii). But I think we've settled on a 3500 Laramie 4x4 with Cummins and g56 and a few small add ons. The slt and bighorn wind up costing pretty much the same after options are added. Plus the Laramie comes with ventilated seats, which sounds amazing.

Still wrapping my head around spending almost $60 grand on a truck though :eek:

Ok boys, bringing this back to the top because we're making progress (sort of:doah:)

I'm pretty well set on not getting an older rig. I see a couple that are very interesting in the worthy rigs thread, but I just know they're going to need work, plus will never be as comfortable/quiet or tow like a new one.

I still don't trust Ford, and (no offense to anyone that has one), but the new GM's are ugly as sin, inside and out. The radio looks like something from Toys R' Us...

This leaves me with Ram, which I was leaning towards anyhow. I think they're the best looking truck on the market, hands down. Here's where the trouble starts.

I want a cummins. I know it's a big investment up front, and has more expensive services but it keeps resale super high. Plus, I plan on keeping whatever I get for 10+ years. I know it'll tow better than a gasser, and get significantly better mpg. BUT, I honestly don't know how much I'll be towing. I know for sure I'll be towing the blazer down to Alabama (which still isn't set in stone as our destination, btw). Plus I'm taking ownership of my sisters jeep. She left it to me in her will to fix up and keep running, to give back to her son when he turns 16. If I can either rent (or end up buying a trailer big enough, I'd like to do both at once). Otherwise, I'm not sure how often I'll be towing. That said, I don't want to wish I had gotten the diesel after the fact.

I really don't have room/money/time for ANOTHER project or single purpose vehicle. This truck is going to have to be DD plus tow pig. I've also never owned (as mine, the wife's WRX was picked up new) a brand new vehicle. I'd kind of like something new, with some bells and whistles. All of these have me leaning towards new vs used. I'd like to start with no miles, no rust, no issues whatsoever. Plus, used cummins trucks are only a couple thousand less than new (for 2013/14) even with gobs of miles on some of them.

I know I'm overthinking. I know it's all worse because we're not 100% sure where we're going next. And I know I'm stressing more than I should be. But at the same time, it's almost $60,000 for a new truck!!! Ashley has given me the total go-ahead for it, but I'm still stressing over it. That and where we're going to live to store all my $hit, if I am going back to school when we get back, the fact that I still want to put a ton of money/work into the blazer, etc.

Somebody make me feel better!:haha::haha:

Oh, and I still can't make up my mind on the color:doah: On that subject, I'm liking Maximum steel metallic, black forest green pearl/silver, blue streak pearl/silver, and deep cherry red/silver. I am having a hell of a time...

I dd my RAM, no issues here. I bought mine knowing I wouldn't be towing all the time but I knew we would be going east when we transferred. best decision ever, it made it nice to tow my junk with out working my truck to hard.

Black forest green!!!

Everybody and their brother has a white, black, or gray truck. Set yourself apart from the rest.

That and the blue are my top contenders. I also kinda like the brown, but not as much as the others...

Lemme make you feel better. Your plan for keeping for 10+ years makes financial sense. It also makes sense in every other aspect. Your gonna know the truck inside and out. Your gonna know if it's been hot rod rodded or driven gently. Taking proper care of something makes it last longer it's simple as that.

The only issue I see driving a pickup as a daily is parking. That is the only downside I can see that would affect my choice.

And every time you tow your gonna love it.

BTW I vote for brown. I love that color

Not much I can add other than to say that if you are truly buying a new truck with an eye on future resale values, then you should buy the most popular color and the most popular options to increase the size of your buying pool later on.....

In effect, you are buying a truck for someone else (2nd owner)... an unusual paint color may appeal to YOU, but it will make it harder to sell once you are ready to move on to something else.

green is one of those colors that ya tend to love on other peoples rigs, but can get kinda old on your own stuff...

someone post pics of the brown, green and blue in the dodges..

I know a guy that has the brown on his dodge. looks sweet!

Greg and Paul have good points!
Just don't get black... love black but sratches to easy, way to much work to keep nice.

I like that root beer brown color too, but as Greg said, it might not be the best choice if resale value is a concern. I kinda get the feeling that the color is going to feel really dated by the time you sell it. Kinda like purple cars from the '90's.

That's very true, but that statement was more as an "if I don't like/want/need it, I can get out of it without taking a huge hit". I feel like that's very unlikely however.

That said, it might be a nudge towards an automatic vs the manual...

Obviously that last one isn't the best picture, but you get the idea. I guess it looks green in some light, black in others.

I think the blue/silver is on the top of the list.

On this Eric, I'm not worried about parking a big truck in the US after living in Europe... Smart cars are a tight squeeze sometimes!

My big hangup is that it's a lot of money that I didn't earn. Makes me feel a little dirty. Hard to explain to those who are the bread winners, or even gainfully employed. I've been unemployed / making $9/hr for 3 years... That's not really anyone's fault, but it still makes me uncomfortable, even after 7 years of marriage. I know she doesn't care, but I do.

No pictures will do that green any justice. Its something that has to be seen in person.

That's what I was thinking. Unfortunately for me, that's not an option unless I want to order after getting back, then wait 5-6 weeks for it.

I know exactly what you are saying about the money thing. Kristle has been our breadwinner for a long time and I still feel like you do about the money even over something small.

Also why is it the photographer guy can't resize a pic

:whistle::haha:
