Decisions decisions - Getting closer

I don't particularly care for the interior of the new GMs over the new dodges, an the exterior of the chevys is plain ugly...

Also, it's very unlikely that I'm going used at this point. Either too expensive or too beat. Sometimes both.

We'll see though.

So you would get the manual Paul? Everyone else says auto is better now...

I inherently like manuals for their durability and simpleness... auto's are fine if it's a proven durable unit IMO..

I'm in the same boat. Seems like everyone is suggesting that the auto will lay down more power-better and is stronger. :dunno:

could be.. I know nothing of trans in the last decade.. but I do know of some slushboxes over the yr's with inherent issues... some of the earlier dodge offerings for one.. i have heard the Allison boxes are good....

Yeah, I remember the 94-98 or 99 dodge trannies were awful! Everything new seems (according to reading/people here) seems like they're really good. The allisons are supposed to be great, but I just don't like the new chevy's. I can't win:doah:

i "think" those 47 & 48RE box behind the cummins are supposed to be pretty good too... especially if you upgrade em, but I'm delving into mild innuendo and rumor... others here will obviously knows way more about them....

I'm just a huge cummins fan... heck, it's what we run in the sportfishes we build... :haha:

48's are the ticket for a Dodge....

If you want the lowdown on Autos, and manuals for that matter...only guy to go to ask is Greg Ducato

Not everyone.

Make that +3 for the manual.

I really like the new Dodge trucks. I think they finally got them right. I mean Cummins, G56, straight axles with coils front and rear. But most of all an interior that has pretty much reversed my opinion on Dodge trucks. Now if only they put either the cummins or the manual in the power wagon, I'd probably have one in my driveway.

I don't know where the hell you guys keep finding these manual dodges on dealer lots but they don't seem to exist near me. Everytime i ask the salesman I usually get strange looks.

Edit: I should add that finding the right used Duramax with a manual transmission will take some serious time. They can usually be had for $20-25k but since they are rare birds they typically sell quickly.

Every time I've done the dealer search (the website times out and makes you redo everything after a couple of hours) a few manuals come up, but none with the trim/exterior color/options I'd like. We'll see what I can track down...

There are four standard trans Dodges at my local dealer, Two Crewcab long beds, one Ext. cab long bed, and a Reg.cab long bed.

And theres 3 used manual trucks too, 2 of which are Cummins's.

Thats where my Dad bought the red Cummins came from, 94 5spd 2wd, with 136,000 miles, although that was many moons ago.

Everyone but 2 people say manual......
HEEEEEYYY!!! Don't leave me out! I say (and drive) stick too. :D burnout
I'm also in this camp, Adam. I strongly prefer stick-shifts, and that's one reason that my K-trucks haven't ever felt like daily drivers to me. And why I'm slowly plotting a manual conversion. Why would I want to drive an automatic?

If you're of a similar persuasion, and you're shopping for a new truck, why wouldn't you get the truck that matches your driving style? :dunno:

I'm feeling better about this now. I swapped my Blazer to a manual, and currently only have manuals in the household. I just like the third pedal. Probably what I'll go with.

Looking that way. I need to finalize this plan and everything with the boss, plus find out 100% where we're moving to. But I stopped yesterday and talked to the dealership on base (can order there and pick up anywhere). But for now that's how I'm leaning.

If you plan to add ANY power upgrades to the Cummins you will have to put money in either trans you buy. Whether it be with a new clutch or with a rework of the auto, you're going to spend a couple thousand either way eventually.

So I would say get what you want and buy this shirt.
