Decisions decisions - Getting closer

I'll have to see what would come up. A few things I added wouldn't be necessary, but I like the green (go figure) and the Cummins and g56 are pretty mandatory.

I assume there's a military discount too, so I'll have to look into that. Hell, I think I can order one (or do a dealer search) through the car sales place on base here in Germany and accept delivery in the states. That might be an option...

I went auto this time , the manuals are de-tuned now, that and Patty dd's the 2012 she can drive a manual just fine but with all things considered it just made more sense.

Yeah, I hear you. I think my wife would tell me to get my head checked if I bought an automatic. She hates autos more than I do.

That said, how de-tuned? Seems kinda stupid.

The autos will hold more power.

Ever looked at diesel clutches? There is a reason they are super spendy.

If I was planning on newer truck it would he a dodge. If you keep it more than 10 years then it's almost worth buying new.

Once you guys get settled you could start on a crew cab project. Or just concentrate on your blazer and be ready to tow across the country at the drop of a hat.

I haven't really ever looked at them. Interesting... I still can't imagine I'd feel a lack of power with 700+ft/lbs of factory torque.

I plan on keeping whatever vehicle I end up with for the foreseeable future. Which is why I'm so focused on no rust, low (or no) miles, etc. I'd like to get it, drive it and maintain the hell out of whatever I buy.

And yes, the Blazer is my current project. The Mrs wants an old vette, I have dreams of a 68 charger. A square body cc would be great, but I don't need one as a project. At least for now...

You get used to it lol I only ghost shift every know and then haha

Lol. That, and I've never driven an automatic that was always in the gear I wish it was...

Would you say that I'd have trouble towing my Blazer on a ~20ft trailer with the manual and subsequent de-tuned motor, or just would notice the difference next to an auto?

Would a nice South Bend take up the slack and allow a re-tune?

South bend dual disc is around 2000 ish and yes you can tune after that but say buy buy to warranty after that . The autos are now a 6 speed with double overdrive and too be honest are flat awesome they have enough you're that there is no worries about being in the wrong gear.

I'm a manual guy too I have 5 cummins trucks and 4 of them are manuals . But that being said my 4th gen auto is the one I go too when it's time to tow heavy .

idk.. says it's a CL ad.. you can click to contact the seller.. if I see any others, i'll post em.. but I'm not much of hunter thru CL, etc anymore... check the recent posts in the "worthy CC's around the country" thread for the $8600 one....

thing about any older truck is it will always need something. It is pretty hard to get something done up enough to not worry about it. Lets face it, its a used motor, used transmission, used everything. To make it as nice as new I would think you would be looking to take it to an auction and get 50k or more.

When reality sets in a bit any old Chevy with a Cummins could look super insane nice no leaks nothing. Everything done correctly. It is still a truck that was not designed like that. It is stilt a custom job. It still throws all the problems directly on your shoulders.

I really hate to try and talk you out of a crew cab Chevy Cummins but a newer truck might be the ticket for you guys.

If I could afford it I would probably not do it but I would also not find a truck already done. I would take it down to a bare frame box it add crossmembers paint the whole thing add tons of dimple dies in the boxing and shock mounts. Coil overs up front with air bags in the back Cummins with a 5600 stock axles ( well with Zip lockers) 37s reshaped fenders so it only needs 2" of lift and on and on and on. I really think if I had the money I would easy have 30 k just in parts and rebuilding stuff more if you include paint. Add labor to that and man it just went to a 100k dollar truck

I do think you would be better off with a new truck Sean.

Thanks Paul, I'll check it out further in the morning (Almost midnight here). I'll look for the one in the crews and worthy rigs thread too.

I'll have to look deeper into the auto/manual debacle. Honestly, I think I might need to just test drive either to make a final decision though. Which is difficult from Germany...

Trust me I just died a little inside recommended you get a new truck :doah:
I'm starting to feel that way too... It just seems like it's going to be better at everything except looks and cool factor if I get a new one.

I have quite a bit of time, and lots of thinking to do before go-time anyways. I really do appreciate everyone's input though!

I'm with you I feel like a sell out , advising someone to buy a new truck instead of a square body.

It's just that the new trucks really are that good
