some of THE best deals are the auctions that are mislabeled and/or categorized improperly. that broad "snap on" search covers EVERY auction that could apply...

Hate to say it but I've got 3 things Craftsman that I still own, and as of last week the third item, a floorjack, just **** the bed. I don't believe craftsman is what it used to be.
If I was in you're shoes I would get a snap-on guy to the shop and trade him all those industrial tape dispensers you've got for some socket sets.
My box is made up of SO/older Mac/ and SK. The SO stuff has held up very well and the truck stops by every week. Warranty is great. The SK stuff has held up well too. I'm not a fan of my SK wrenches though. But the one SK socket set I have has held up excellent. Its a lower cost alternative with a lifetime warranty, but no truck service that I have ever seen in my area.

That's the other big disappointment with Craftsman. I have an ACE hardware which carries craftsman right here in town. Pass it everyday on the way to and from the shop.
Tools being readily available is a disappointment?
Nah, I meant to say, it's disappointing that their quality is not what it used to be, Especially since they are so close.
On a side note, ACE hardware is now a craftsman retailer. We have on here in town.
Note that you can also buy them at K-Mart, since K-Mart bought Sears (or merged with, or something.)
It was weird enough some years back when the local halfway-decent hardware chain, Orchard Supply, got bought out by Sears and started carrying Craftsman.
But K-mart? Ugh.

Nothing is made the way it used to be, im only 25 and i can tell the difference between my dad and gpa's tools, and mine. And alot of them are the same brand. Even some of the newer Snap-On is junk. I think everything nowadays is made to break, so you have to keep buying. Where as back in the day things where made to last so you didnt have keep buying them.
Another vote for the gray pneumatic stuff. I was a matco dealer for 9 year and a bunch of ny guys wanted a cheaper "home" line. So I brought this stuff in and sold tons of it. Guys started buying it for for shop use also to fill in their sets of the missing sizes. Was cheaper to buy the gray set than to buy 4 or 5 of my matco socket on the bigger 3/8 or 1/2 sizes. They also have a great 1/4 set that doesn't skip and includes deep and shallow, metric and sae. They also have a lifetime warranty, you would have to send them in, the co was great to deal with though. Most of all my warranty on them was very, very low and like I said I sold TONS of it. I bought their 3/4 drive store display and kept it on a wall in my truck. I never had to warranty one and it was way cheaper than any other tool truck. Just my 2 cents worth.
To add, I wouldn't cheap out on ratchets though, nothing like the newer matco and snappy fine tooth locking flex head ones. The only place I'm a supporter of cheap is the gray sockets. Even the 3/8 wobbles hold up really well. And have the collars covering the pin like so. I own them, hammer away with an IR composite at 100 psi, at the end of my hose.
