He's been holding onto that damn flag for a couple of years now. He ordered it before our trip in '18 but it didn't come in time. He gave it to me to take last year since he was supposed to be in the sandbox then. When he came back early and we knew I couldn't go I gave it back to him. Third one was in the driver's side seat back pocket. I'm not sure I actually got that one turned on right. Or I did and you used as white noise to go to bed with. Who would have thought that noise wouldn't bother you?
Should have used a noise that sounded like a squeak or a rattle. That would have driven you nuts.
I don't remember anybody having an AC unit in a camper. I know Larry don't and Ty don't in his silver dodge. I'm pretty sure the waggys didn't, but I didn't snoop around those much at all. Nobody was running one that I know of. Would have heard the gen set running.
That's the exact reason why I was solo. My wife has MS and extreme heat will set off an episode that would likely put her in a hospital for a couple of days. Even with AC in the truck eventually, the heat, once we are parked and not running, could still set her off. She's got no issues on our mountain runs, but the desert stuff is off-limits unless I went in the winter. I'd really like to check out some areas in the winter out there eventually and my furnace keeps the camper toasty where you are sleeping in your undies and a light 40-50 degree sleeping bag.thank you. I was showing the pictures to my wife and talking about how it would be fun to explore once I retire. she has had heat stroke once before and now if she gets too hot she is done for. it makes her sick, nauseated with a migraine headache and was wondering if she would be able to tolerate it.
on the other hand, might be a good excuse to go by myself
A couple of us have these mini swamp coolers from Walmart or Lowes that actually works quiet well. Just keep dumping bottles of cold water in it and it cools down the camper nicely but like Rob said, we didn’t even need it this year. In fact, the evenings got down right chilly this year. Last year in Death Valley was an entirely different story….I fed this thing a few bottles of water each night.
Yeah I brought a USB powered mini-swamper with me this year. Never got it out of the cabinet. Didn't need it. Mine is an early version from Walmart and runs on a USB plug whereas the new version of this comes only with a 110 plug. The USB version can still be found on Evilbay though
But I would bet that @fourwheelerjeff is not familiar with a swamp cooler, just swamp butt, since he lives in Texas.
Seriously though, I have talked with people who just don't comprehend how the temperature can get low enough quickly after dark, and how humidity under 15% can make daytime temperatures in the 90* range tolerable with just a little air movement.
. I don't know why, but the thought of Expedition Portal these days makes me want to puke in my mouth a little. It was a really neat forum years ago before the whole "Expo" thang exploded and "Overlanders" became such a cult of weird motherfubber sheaple with more money than brains.
Great idea posting links to past years trips. Went down the rabbit hole reading the early years and 2014 where you climbed up the Flint switchbacks for the first time, under normal power and not being towed like this time around. Pretty cool to be able to recognize the area without being on that trip.Finally had a chance to really read through the report Rob. Nice job documenting everything before we forget things here and there. Its always fun looking back at old trip reports and reading things that jog memories years later. This report will be no different in the years to come.
You’re right in what you said though. We were lucky that when the K10 broke, we had all the right people in the right places. I wouldn’t wanted it any other way…. You, Ty and Ian right there with me and Bill at home to bring the Rescue Waggy. And, despite the reason for our car-pooling 400+ miles back home, it was a fun time to spend a day and a half on the road together like the old days being totally unfiltered and politically incorrect. Fun time!
