Detent Cable "Downshift" cable

I had an issue with my cable off my 350 just 2 months ago...I broke the plastic piece that went in to the transmission and all the freaking fluid leaked out!!! thing was a pain in the crack!...but i found a replacement for something like $50 from a local tranny shop

guys im thinking hes talking about the electrical 4 wires that come down to the tranny on the drivers side i believe for lockup

hard to imagine mixing up wires and a cable, but it certainly would make sense.. it'd run without that...

Aren;t the four wires going to the tranny the ones that run the lockup converter or did i hear wrong. When i got my old tranny rebuilt the guy said if i didn't have that plugged up that's why the tranny went out. He then said i needed to buy the non-lockup converter conversion..which i did. Maybe he was just sellin me more thna i needed???

That little harness still pisses me off...

I had to get my tranny rebuilt after an engine fire (don't ask) and the only part of the harness I couldn't replace was what went to the e-lockup. This was pre-CK5 for me, and my resources and knowledge were limited compared to now.

Either way, without an e-lockup, I had to get the tranny rebuilt with some other system of locking up the converter. I think it runs off vacuum. I need to figure it out, but that's little ways off. :(

I believe this is what you need. This is what the guy installed in mine.

Yeah... there's something like that in there. The guy said he'd installed 700R4's in plenty of older sheet metal, so he was pretty familiar with a non-electronic lockup.

Yes, that is what I am was saying about the electric wire "cable" in the LMC catalog, the end connection in the catalog loked like the end in the wire.
so that is why I was asking about detent cable. After reading the discussion and links, I realize this is not a dentent cable. However not sure what is is so here are the pics of my tranny and the wires.. The first wire comes the transfer case linkage in the cab and the second ends up over the oil-filter. Thanks for the help guys...

Pic 3 driver side on cab ends up over oil filter... Pic 5 the end conection

You definately have a 700R4 trans. Is the plug in the 2nd pic a square plug? If so that is for the lock-up convertor which plugs into the driverside of the trans. The 3rd pic looks to be a single purple wire which is for the 02 sensor on the driverside exhaust manifold.

EDIT: The second pic now that i think of it looks like a 2 wire connector which should be your 4x4 switch on the top passenger side of the t-case.

Pic 3 ..... Must be the 02 senser for manifold, since I have no cat, thats probably why not hooked up. Added Pic, end of wire in Pic 3 above..
The plug from the 4x4 shifter is a square in Pic 2.. What does this do actually, I have maunal hubs, so do I need this cable hooked up.

BTW: Thanks guys for fixing my straight on the damm Detent cable!

Is this thing carbed? I hope so with no O2 sensor...

No..87 fuel injected.. I guess the guys on hooked the senser to manifols when the took of my cat. convertor. I will have to check manifold to see. This wire has not been hooked up for years along with the other wire..

The 02 sensor needs to be hooked up. Also is there any square plug connected on the driverside of the trans? If not you need to figure out where it is and get it connected, that's for the torque convertor lock-up and without it the trans will build too much heat and burn up (unless of course someone has done the mod to delete the lock-up feature).
