Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Also the thin one is usually hooked up in the block just above the oil filter on a 350......when it detects oil pressure it sends power to the choke. Yea the fat one works with your oil pressure gauge.

So I imagine the low pressure cutoff prolly doesnt work because the 305 ran at about 10 most the time lol. I think ill take the small one off then, im pretty good at watching my gauges.

BTW any thoughts on the looks of those rockers??
I called the guy up and he said its all ready to go, he said he set them all dry and they will be pumped up when the oil is in and circulating. So unless I hear some weird noises im not gonna worry about it. He has put these same rockers on multiple small blocks and never ruined a cam, so im going to take his word for it, and if something does happen im sure he would fix it for me.

Adam, the rockers do look like they are fine from that angle....seemed like they were all closed in the previous pic.
As far as oil goes, I usually run a 5w30 for breakin, and if a flat tappet (non roller lifter type) I add a cam breakin additive, despite what the oil says. Zinc needs to be in the 1200ppm range to be effective at protecting the lobes of a flat tappet cam.
I would check the Royal oil to see what the content of zinc and phosporous is to be sure.

I believe I read somewhere that the oil pressure warning light goes off at 5 psi.
I would keep the small one and wire it to a light. I don't care how well you watch your gauges, a light always helps. I would like to wire my sensor back up, it's just sitting there. I have the perfect spot on my DIY4x dash for a bright red LED. :)

The fat one is only for your factory gauge. Why not remove it and run the mechanical one in it's place? This is how I'd have it.

Well where else on the engine could I run my mechanical gauge if anywhere?? I would like to keep the factory because I like the stock gauge look, and have the mechanical down by my tach.

There is a port just above the oil filter on the block.

Martin

Well too bad you didnt tell me that about say, 12 hours ago lol. THe engines in and way to much of a pain to get that stuped fitting back in. I guess I could extend the wires to the cutoff one and put it on that other port???

Well anyways here she is sittin in on some nice brand new motor mounts, full of royal purple break in oil all ready to kick some butt. Im excited to see what its going to do. The crank on the 305 could be spun by one persons hand and it took all I had to spin it back to TDC after putting the torque converter bolts to the 408. So basically it feels much less shloppy:thumb: (Nobody likes em shloppy:whistle:)

And no I didnt clean the engine bay, the shop has no running water to supply the pressure washer and I didnt feel like getting a pump and messing around with lugging water down their in buckets, I can do it later. Plus im sure the 1/4" thick of greasy residue will act ten times better against rust than any undercoating would lol.

I think the nice clean shiny engine draws the attention away from the dirty engine bay anyways lol, it makes it pop!! haha

Well I was gonna blast the frame and the whole bay with the pressure washer and degreaser and hit the frame with undercoating. BUT THANKS!!

Yah man im pretty pumped!!! I drilled and tapped the wholes for the bars in the flywheel cover for some bigger bolts for the torqyness of the 408, the 305 even managed to snap one of the bolts off in it so I went a bit bigger:thumb:

Ohh you guys are good lol. Yah I keep my socket set organized, and it ends about their. I have a dewalt bag and a tool box I always have with me, I just throw as much in the tool box as possible and the rest goes with the cordless tools in the bag lol. I find I work good in a mess lol

And whats everyones opinion on the chrome valve covers?? I really liked the alluminum edelbrocks I had but they wouldnt fit with the roller rockers darnit, picked these up for $25 off CL, Idk they are alright, But I defiately think it needs alluminums to complete the look with the pan, and intake... plus Aluminum doesnt rust and disipates heat better.

You can get ones just like the aluminums in a tall version. Just save up for them. they do look better:waytogo:

Yah thats what I figured man, I was gonna look into those spacer things but I only found them for like $105 :eek1: I could buy the tall ones for that price lol. I just needed something I could slap on for the time being and Im sure I could sell the others on CL pretty quick.

Im thinking more along the lines of these though, they are a bit pricy however but I really dig the sharp angle look, if anybodys got some other aluminums like this throw a pic up for me

Yah Im definately a fan of the bare alluminum look instead of the polished, I think it looks pretty mean. Ive always been a fan of flat colors (no i wont paint the truck flat black)
