Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

I JUST FIGURED OUT WHERE MY BIG SCREWDRIVER WENT!!!! Ive been looking for that SOB for weeks!! Can anyone spot it lol

You must of found it before that, because it wasn't there as you were lowering the engine in, but it is after the engine is installed, and it's been missing for weeks? :dunno:

Engine is looking good by the way. And those valve covers look good I think(and they are the thicker GMPP units that will seal better than standard chrome), but I do like the cast aluminum too. I have wanted to sandblast my valve covers for a while so they were bare cast aluminum instead of factory black.

Oh, and good luck getting the headers on with the plugs and wires already installed. I usuallly put the plugs in after the headers are on.

If you look at the picture of him standing in front of the truck with the engine just starting to go in, the screwdriver can be seen by the drivers side windshield wiper.

Ok well i just got off work so im headed out to the shop to try and start hooking everything back up, im really not looking forward to this part lol, I really wish I would have labeled the brackets and bolts better for their locations, but oh well ill figure it out.

whats up with the exhaust manifolds, no headers?

I say definitely go with Cast valve covers FTW!

Dave thats a pic of the 305 lol. I was comparing what it looks like now to then.

Heres what it should look like pretty much, I did a pretty nice job of routing the wires from the alternator to starter and battery if I do say so myself:thumb:

I also bought all new grade 8 bolts to put everything back together, and used antiseize on all going into the block. (No I didnt use antiseize on the header or starter bolts)

Ha you doubted me, I routed the wires so they would run underneath the headers :thumb:

i see a huge problem in last motor pic.

someone used a rubber end gasket seal on the intake.

how long before that blows out ?

and cut off the extra hole on the water pump gasket thats on upside down. but wont effect the use.

Pay no mind to the UGLY motor in the back round:D

Hey man the top mounting bracket to the left of the cap. Is their some sort or spacer behind it to that bracket?? Thats the spot I was looking at but it seems like their is a space that needs filling lol

yeah i think theres like an 1/8" washer there

Some are different, the one pictured, uses the hex head in the middle of the stud as the spacer, some of the older stuff uses a 1/4" or so spacerbetween the cylinder head, and the bracket.

Yeah, it uses a stud that has a hex head in the middle of it. You tighten it down against the first bracket, then slide the power steering pump over the stud end. it pivots on that stud.

You cant put it back on yet anyway... Its not painted and looks like chit compared to the back drop:whistle:

Ok, you did pretty good there, small block headers are pretty easy to fit up through there I guess.

However, you should of done that with the alternator wire loom too, that thing looks like it might melt sitting right on top the primary tubes. If you tuck it close to the block you can hide the whole thing under the header. Although I did put some thermo sleeve around mine too.

Overall I think it's looking pretty good, nice work Adam. :waytogo:

Dangit lol. I know but its pretty narly and not something i can sandblast. How much for a reman? im at work on my phone so i cant really check

He can get away with having the plugs in he doesn't have longtubes. I had to take the plugs out with both sets of longtubes I have put in.

Just throw paint on it as is for now. it'll look better till you need a new one. All it really has to do is "not stand out" to look better. The pic I posted back in post # 526 has the old alternator and PS pump on it. All I did was wipe em down with degreaser and spray away. Not pretty up close but not a show truck either

That pic was after a coat of paint!! haha its just flaked that much underneath and rusty lol.
