Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

Burnout pics?

Still needs exhaust and gotta break it in yet. I was kinda hopin to do the break in sat but ive been really busy at work and been stayin late so Idk if im gonna have enough time to get it ready by then or not. We shall see.

Well im oft, to go dig a trench, so I can lay some pipe
(literally of course you sick SOB's!!! lol)

I hope you meant literally, cause if you have to dig a ditch before you lay pipe figuratively its called Necrophilia.:eek1: And thats some weird chit DUDE:D Dont rush them burn out pics. we can wait. I'd hate to see ya take a few years off the life of your motor in one early burn out:rolleyes: (probably still happen though:waytogo:)

Oh yah I dug a dang fine hole lol.

Its an older couples house and they are building a "man cave out back" it will consist of a 2 stall garage, with a loft up top for card table, bathroom with a urinal downstairs, full sewer, electric, and hot water as well. It should have enough room for his brand new corvette which was freekin sweet!!! I was pretty envious of this guy lol.

Kinda like being at daves place:D Dude has nice toys:bow:

I would do so much different if I build another shop/storage building.
Like 12' ceiling and a lift being high on the list. Just a reminder it took me almost 40 years to get a heated shop to work in....I've paid my dues.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist:D Deuling I can't wait for vide of that engine running:waytogo:

AHH I KNOW!!! IM TRYING!!! Ive just been so busy laying pipe all over muskegon county its hard to keep up:rolleyes:

(pun intended :haha:)

But seriously im gonna try to get down there tomorrow after work for a bit and my buddy is coming to help. I really would like to start getting the exhaust in place and see what I need for fittings to get up to the headers and get it in place. I know ive asked before but what header gaskets should I use, I want ones that I can reuse so I can pull the headers off every now and then and give them a blasting and a fresh coat of whatever it is I decide to put on them, as you can see I blasted the grill paint off, I didnt like the black.

They're cheap enough. just buy good thick ones and buy new when ever you pull em to paint. probably only be once a year anyway.

Yah very true, I was gonna break it in with the headers bare and then take them off and paint to save on the smoke during the break in lol. I dont want to get these ones coated in anything because they are a fairly cheap set and I dont think it would be worth it. If I get a nice set down the line I would look at the ceramic coating.

I have the ceramic coateds on my kids truck. I'm gonna take my chances with break in though:doah:I cant really afford any to just break it in with so.... whats aguy to do:dunno:

I've had good luck with both the percy's aluminum, and the solid copper. I've had copper gaskets on my 388 for 14 years now with locking header bolts. I also really like the aluminum because it expands with heat and keeps the header bolts tight once you tighten them after the first few heat cycles. I tried the new carbon gaskets and they work great, but the header bolts are always coming lose on me very quickly, at the dunes I tightened them one day and the next day they were loose already, annoying. I may switch to the aluminum ones for the big block too.

I saw a set of ceramic coated edlebrocks ruined in like 30 seconds after startup for break in. They were glowing cherry red and now they are rusty like any header. The machinist had a laser thermometer on the heads and the motor wasn't overheating or anything. For break ins i've seen you fire it up and hold a steady rev so there isn't really any going back. They were on a third gen camaro so really no choice they had to go in with the motor because of clearances. You can't just take them on and off on those cars. If you want to do it right break it in with manifolds and your old exhaust if it is still in there. Then put the headers in and that way your changing less variables at once.

Header wrap can hide rust over time.

I have the cheaper coated Edelbrock headers. Broke the cam in with them on and a short dump towards the ground. After that I finished off my exhaust and broke the motor in. Then took the headers and Y pipe off to get ceramic coated. There is only about 300 miles on them since the coating and all seems good. I also used the percy's AL gaskets.

The place that did the coating (like most prolly do) beadblasted and cooked everything before coating, so it doesn't really mater what you do with them before coating.

Ehh I think ill put em on bare, break it in, try that antiseize thing on them with them in and forget about it.

My list of things to finish

Exhaust
radiator flushed and put back in
Shroud in
New TV cable, mines all shreaded looking (how hard is that to put in with tranny and engine in? I just noticed how bad it is today)
Fill with fluids
CRANK IT OVER!!!
