Deulings 1985 K5 Blazer, --aka Borderline Obnoxious; Silver Lake pics and Vids

I jsut noticed how low they are. didnt compute at first lol.

I guess if you just plannin on sand its not a big deal, but on rocks that exhaust would be a goner.

Pics of whole exhaust setup? Tryin to figure why its ran so low did you go below the tranny x member?

The hanger idea is cool, but the pipes are kinda way low:dunno:. Take em up about 5" and keep your hanger. Is the hanger bottom cross bar gonna hit the drive shaft when the axle goes up. Ive heard of driveshafts being cut in 2 by rubbing on something enough to cause a groove then shear at it.

On another note, I can hear it now and it sounds sweet.:thumb:

That hanger is prolly a good 5 or 6 inches from the drive shaft, I know the pic looks like its close but its way above it. Just an odd angle, and the exhaust is kinda low, but it was the only way I could do it with my headers the way they are and the system I bought. Tailpipes come out in the same spot as before basically, not much lower. :thumb:

THis truck will never see a mud pit, a rock crawl situation or anything needing articulation. The most it will see is pavement and some sand. Im not worried about how low the exhaust sits in some spots, its still higher than the pig and tranny crossmember so im fine with that.

I would be hellbent on finding a way to tuck them up somehow, Stuff hanging down bugs the hell out of me.

It does sound really good too. Get any seat time driving yet?

How bout nooooo. lol. Im kinda embarrased about how I had to run the exhaust so low lol. that system I bought ended up not fitting above the tranny crossmember any way I could mess with it and still be able to hook up to my headers. So yah its pretty low, but like I said above, this truck wont ever see more than some sand and lots of pavement. I hate washing mud off stuff, and I will never rock crawl it. I hate dents and scratches lol.

When I get a nicer set of long tube headers that can shoot back ill thing of tucking it up. not worried for now, its still higher than the pigs and x member.

And no drivetime yet, still need a tv cable and figure out that stupid temp guage issue.

Those are pretty minimal projects though.

That would drive me crazy being so close.

I know right?? I guess ive just grown patient with things moving so slowly to begin with, plus I havnt had the funds to do everything all at once like I would have liked. At $9.50 an hour and averaging like 25 hours a week this summer its not like I have the income like so many others to spend just on the truck. Thats kinda why I gotta do stuff like those hangers and such that arent really the right way, but they are cheap and should work.

It had to be on facebook so I couldnt hear it:doah: I think I may be the only person who has never even looked at facebook. Hope it sounds good man. I'll hear it sometime I'm sure:D

I never looked at it before you!...oh wait...uh...how old are you? :D

I can't see the video either.

Sick of the Flowmaster sound.

Let me check the book....checking....yep, you lost your mancard. :screwy: :wink1:

Put them out the sides. That way you aren't sucking fumes in if you roll with the rear window down. Also keeps tailpipes from getting crunched if you start to climb suddenly at the base of an incline.

:sign17:

copper will be fine, I've had a copper line in my Vette forever, you need to put a couple coils in the line to allow for movement. (coils like your brake lines have @ the master cyl.)
Make sure your ferrels are on straight and not at an angle and they'll work good.

Dave it doesn't count for the 15 years it was being restored! :haha:(it was worth it for how beautiful it is though, show quality piece man, very impressed).

I had a copper line on my regal, with 2 coils in it to alleviate the stress, and it cracked 3 times within a year or so and every time it would leave me stranded when oil would start spewing out and I would have to stop. I replaced it with braided stainless line from autometer and fixed the problem for good. The plus side is it undercoated my floorpan and kept it from rusting any further! :thumb:

Well mostly I did it because I couldnt find a hanger long enought to make it up to that exhisting mounting point

That's probably a hint that you are mounting it too low. You did an excellent job with everything Adam, except the exhaust, it's too low and the mount looks all cobbled. You can do better DUDE! I had to cut my exhaust hanger off to use the lowest hole that was in it, and I was mounting it all the the way at the top of the frame, immediately under the bed.

On a side note I still can't see any of your photobucket videos, they never work for me, maybe it's a filter or something. I would like to hear how it sounds.

Yah im not proud of the exhaust but the way my headers shoot down so low and close to the frame theirs no way i could hang it higher. I got the headers for free so im just workin with what i got till i can get it to an exhaust shop and get some bends made for it.

Adam, shoot for something like this:

That does look sweet Dave, but he doesn't have his tcase clocked, so he probably doesn't need to mount the exhaust solid and do all that fancy work with the flexlines. I had room to put 3" in mine, so his 2.5" should fit fine with the right headers/bends.

Dont worry ill get it done up right down the road but i really need to save some money up. College is spensive! lol. It will work for now. Just have to hit those sand hills fast enough that i never get hung up on a peak lol.

Flowmasters are overused, over hyped, and over priced. They're better than a stock muffler but there's plenty out there that flow better and cost less.

Hell, you can usually get a stainless steel Magnaflow for what Flowmaster wants for a similar sized aluminized muffler...and the Magnaflow will be straight through.

Then again the last few mufflers I've bought have either been Bosal or Cherry Bombs.:D

I wasn't talking about flow, price, cost, advertising, etc, I agree, there are cheaper mufflers that flow more. I was just busting your chops because you simply said you are "sick of the flowmaster sound". That was what I was referring too. There are a lot of good mufflers out there that are good, and a lot of them sound good, but a red blooded american guy can't be sick of a V8 with flowmasters. They simply sound good. You still lost your mancard. Although you could possible say I lost my mancard too, because I hate glasspacks the way they bark and pop. But a lot of people like them. So... :flipoff7:

And lately I see a lot more magnaflow ads than I see flowmaster ads, chip foose, andretti, etc. Flowmasters are over used because they sound good.

Eh, taste is taste.

I used to love it. Even had a 40 series Delta Flow on my '92 Blazer K1500. One trip home from SoCal to Grand Rapids cured me of that love. Then EVERY redneck with a pickup having one sorta made it get old.

Personally I love the bark and pop of a Cherry Bomb. Some engines do seem to make them do that more often though. I loved the Cherry Bomb on my '96 Tracker and the two on Big Ugly. They worked well with them.

Might go for something quieter though on The Blazer. Would like to minimize interior roar a bit. It's already damn loud with generic turbo mufflers. Road trips are taxing.

Older you get, the older it gets.

I'm half deaf from loud exhaust, loud rock and roll, and standing an arm's length from F-18's at full burn.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY?"

If your half deaf, then the noise shouldnt bother you. :haha:

Ya, I agree. As I've gotten older, loud exhausts are just not my thing. Smooth ride, and quiet exhaust are where its at!
