Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

They are all fecky. I think I was way lean. It was stinky at idle, but I never thought about (or really new) that the idle circuit and power circuit in the carb is seperate (or existed).


Got my af mixture gauge ran, bung on the header. Going to bring heads to a shop.

So after talking with my engine builder, he said running it too lean on open throttle is what caused my issues. Which after talking to a few other guys that have some engine experiance, they all seem to have the same thought.


So carb tuning kit is in the mail, along with some other parts to get it a bit more dialed in.

The aluminum heads are at the machine shop. Unfortunately it will be 2 weeks or so before i get them back :doah: I guess this is a busy time of the year, when i brought my heads in today, they had about 20 other sets of heads sitting on the floor, not to mention all the blocks and full motors laying around waiting for machining.... I guess not everybody is convinced on the LS thing yet.....






Whats funny is with that blow out, the #5 cylinder got completely steam cleaned from the steam ports lol.





 
Water under pressure and heat will completely dissipate carbon. I ran an Edlbrock prototype water injection system on a 383 in 1980-81. 40k miles later the engine was pulled apart for inspection.

Clean as a whistle. Cylinders measured the same as when assembled. The truck pulled harder and ran cooler with the injection.

So what your saying is..... Tap into steam ports, run into intake and have water injection system :whistle: :haha:
 
Might want an external control for volume regulation.

Vic Edlbrock said they could not get the kit to sell because nobody would spray water into their engine on purpose.

Its funny cuz that cylinder looks brand new, and no scratches. It was probably making more power becasue of it too....

Well until it blew. I could feel it dogging a bit after that.
 
Why are you going to aluminum heads? Are yours. Cracked? Or you want the air flow?

Aslo ask your machinist about the steem holes. I quit running them on 400s
 
Water injection is super common for boost.. You would b suprised how much power distilled will unleash if your intake air temps are high.. Snow performance has a kit that's pretty cheap.. It will work on a n/a motor as well. Just make sure your not idling or put it on a wot switch.

I have them and apparently these 882 castings are smog junk :dunno:

Yah I wanna see about that. I've been told by multiple people that say they don't see them as necessary.
 
I always thought it had to do with the cylinders being so tight together. About cooling inefficiency between cylinders.
 
The 882s are nothing special. Just the standard 76cc 1.94/1.5

The lower chamber and better air flow will help that 400 breathe.

I also have a 406, 11:1, 1106 summit cam, with some angle milled 882s.
It runs very well and revs like a some bich. With a manual trans
 
That 408 is going to wake up for sure.

Prob wont see a whole lot seat of the pants feel since you added cage weight, but it will be a nice offset.
