Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

Crazy right? Im not cool like you, but i remember way back when i wanted to swap my TBI for TPI but was too scared of the wiring.... Now i can do LS swaps like a boss! We have come so far!

Yeah. I remember buying my M1009 with a mismatching 14bff thrown hastily under the rear end (G80 blew up) and wondering why anyone would want a dump truck axle with dump truck gearing. Especially with a non-O/D 6.2 drive train.

I then started reading up on them, and decided that they seem easier to service (among other virtues). 1.5 years later, I ripped my own functioning 10-bolt axle out and installed one of these dump truck axles just for the fun of it. Having done it 3 times now, I could probably do the whole job in just a few hours.

But my previous self would not have believed you if you told him this was in the cards. We have learned so much.

Still waiting to get tube ordered... Bretts been gone for like a month.

So just doing some time filling on some stuff ive wanted to do.

Anybody ever dimple die a dif cover for a drain??

Also, putting the pinion shims under the leaf springs, changed the angle so that the anti wrap bar would no longer work.

Luckily I had made it out of 1.5" with 1.75" slid over at all the ends. So all I had to to was cut one of the welds, and then slid the tube out a bit to get the angles right.

Then i burned it all in, and added a little plate in the back.

As you can see by the rust, Skye did a pretty spotty job painting everything on this last year lol. But you can definitely spot the flower she painted on the driveshaft lol.

I need to find a more flush plug with internal hex, so it doesnt stick out so far. And have a magnet.

Literally ordered these from Pegasus Racing last night at 7 pm. Here at 3 pm today.... Wow.

The magnets are super strong too.

This might be a record, this thread had no new posts in a 24 hour time period...

It is a new record again, it's the first time I have came in here after a while and wasn't behind 90 posts! :haha:

I like your addition to the traction bar Adam. Looks good.

Lazy?? When's opening day in Silver Lake?:haha:

Great job on the Blazer it is amazing the things you have done and still no fenders have been cut:waytogo:

It opens in 13 days.... Yah I wont have it ready lol. Unless I skip doing the cage. But I would REALLY like to get the cage done before its playtime. I feel ill lose the motivation and instead of tearing it all down (which it half is already) I will just push it off.

Hoping to get the cage stuff going soon though.

Got the covers all finished and bolted up and filled difs. Then i slapped some paint on some stuff, and started on making a shovel for my front axle.

The new plug sits way more flush. And its magnetic.

Ooooooooo I like it, is there a difference in strength purposes having the truss on the bottom vs the top? I vaguely remember hearing something about it.

IMO on the bottom would work better as the axle would need to actually stretch the truss in order to bend. But my reasoning is because I couldn't figure out how to do it on top with the leafs and bump stops/pads etc.

Unfortunately the piece of tube I used was a bit short and it didnt end up hitting the driver side C like I wanted. But Ill use some plates to get the rest.

The reason I cant suck it up any farther is I cant shorten the driver side end anymore as its already touching the u bolt.
