Diesel swap for pure tow rig. Normal towing and best mpg options....?

What dodge used is not always in line with what the rest of the applications. There are vp44 12 valves in equipment pretty commonly.

So, stay away from the 24v right?
Just wondering because I seem to find more of them for sale. Including a 2wd with a manual for $5k

Not at all. Personally, I’ll never trust a vp44 injection pump. But lots of people do.

It’s a snowball of p pumping the 24 valve if you choose. Then might as well turbo and injectors and then BOOM! Three year build.

I just want stockish go and tug.
I have an LS I can boost and beat on if I need 1000hp lol.

I am one of those people. I have lost one injection pump and 2 turbos; but that is between 5 24V trucks

Were they stock, or modified trucks?

stock. I bought one that the pump was out or going out. same truck 5 years later dropped the turbo. I have no idea on the prior history.
second turbo I pulling a gooseneck and got stuck in sand and it bogged the engine down and shut it off. I "think" that is what killed the turbo on that one.

I have one truck that is lightly modified with an Edge EZ set to tow mode all the time.

Take it the vp44 is potentially garbage....? And if so, has anyone made a decent replacement that's better?

I'm steering towards 12v but if a nice deal comes along on a running driving truck with a 24v and the right trans I may jump on it.

Keeping options open ya know lol.

There’s also TONS of misinformation out on correct diagnosis. A lot of times it’s just condemn the pump because of its history but it could literally be just the crank signal. If it doesn’t know the crank is turning then of course it’s not gonna run.

It seems that the 24v Cummins is the LS of the diesel world. I like the sounds of the simplicity of the 12v, but I just hope I can find a line on a good one.

I think the 24 v has a bunch of wiring to sort through, but you’ve been that route with the LS swap, so you can sort it out. Me, I wanted to avoid that, so 12v!

I'm sure someone has a swap harness available by now. But yeah, I would rather have the 12v if i can locate one.
When I have the money in hand I'll have to just start watching every day for something to pop up, and maybe broaden my search farther than the 200 miles I've been using.
Maybe have the wife hit up market place.
